This isn't such a big deal for most, but it took a year of fighting with MT registration and licensing (actually I never fought with them), it's just that no one knew the laws or what it took to get 25+ year old 3-wheelers stickered (this state is very political and back-@$$). I even inquired at the Governors office, no one knew or could agree how to get a license until the price tag was over $300/3-wheeler, that's $1800 folks. Then I knew something was wrong. So drjoe sent me in a direction, my Brother in Oregon got everything lined up, I sent some e-mails and a couple phone calls & now it's possible to even sticker them in MT. Oh, I saved hundreds this route. Have one for the 84' Tecate also. This is more camaraderie help from the 3-wheeler crowd. Thanks to my Oregon buddies over there.(I threw in some other pictures too, my reqirement by all the help we have recieved from trike friends)- Robby

I know this is a dumb question but, why do u need to register your ATVs?
Here In michigan we have never came across the need to.
Just ORV stickers for the dunes and stuff.
even up north we ride on the roads with no problems because that area's who economy is based on ATV/snowmobile riders. never been stopped by the law and asked for registration.

They write you a ticket on state or federal land. Honestly, it's political. It's the battle between the public and the gov't for access to public land. The Federal gov't is tree-huggger based (or should I say payed by those organizations). They have produced so many rules, regualations, and laws to hoard the land from the public that they are written on top of eachother. They ticket you for everything. I was just trying to register them to be law abiding, and to stop being harrassed somewhat. Saves time paying the ticket and going to court. We'll still be ticketed, but now I won't have to pay the fines. The game wardens and sheriffs don't even know the laws, they just write a ticket and it's up to you and the court to figure out it it's the law or not, it's how it works here. If they see the registration, they may not waste there time.....maybe.

I gotta reg here and we have no state lands to ride. The only legal place to ride is private property and you still have to insure and reg the bike!!!Get ready to start reg your trikes in any state as their budgets expand the states are looking for anyway to makeup the tax cuts. I'll bet ALL 50 STATES by years end have a new law on the books requiring you to reg or something to that effect. It's not a tree hugger thing anymore it's a $$$ thing now

wow thats something. Theres so many things Michigan does not have to deal with. Im glad we have not run into that yet...
I was even surprised to see some states have a yearly emmision test for your cars.
here In michigan, if its not too loud then no one cares.
Its Illegal to run no catalytic converters but theres no way to be caught. only if its real loud.

All you have to have around here is a Green plate, and insurance. How much do they charge for the permits?

Oregon wants everyone to take their off road safety class,
but it's online and they send you a genuine plastic off road
license in the mail for Free.

We all know people who say they can ride and then ask if the shifter is the brake.

I got stopped on the way home with a RED sx b/c the cop was looking for a blue QUAD.

I usually carry a 2 dollar receipt book with their phone ## too that the seller fills out esp if they don't have a title.

So ANY kind of paperwork is good to have, sorry to say but also good if a trike disappears, there is a glimmer of hope.

Liability insurance is super cheap like 35$ a year and will cover even while loading and unloading.

I don't like it either but ..oh crap, the power just went out. Good thing the phone lines are underground.
Sideways hail storm.

Have fun everyone!

For just the permanent registration in MT it's $100 per trike, & off road permits are $15-$30, insurance is $100 per year, and plates are around $100. In OR the permits are $10.50 per trike good for 2 years, & that is your registration, insurance around $35..

GF works at the courthouse so I hear stories about the absurd
tickets people are getting.

Some guy got popped for putting quarters in the parking meters
for strangers. I mean, TV news coverage, court dates etc etc.

They're looking for any way to generate income.

We have BLM and federal/public lands in addition to street cops so
if they're bored, and can justify their jobs, they WILL run your papers
on anything, incl trikes and they can and DO impound trikes or whatever.
Then you get to prove somehow, it's yours.

May be the exception rather than the rule considering the sheer numbers out there but for 10 bucks for 2 years, I'll get a sticker with MY name on a
legal looking piece of paper...and keep the Db levels correct and spark arrest
looking good.

Papers are in my helmet sir.

Good job H&R. You're legal now! We must have been thinking the same thing; I just plated and insured the BR on Friday for the lovely sum of $35 for plates and #368.00 for insurance. I know it's high but I put fire and theft on it too.

Gettin' there Pete. Everything is runnin' good, all good tires, and things are drying a touch. Me and Onnie and Tatterbug rode at the lake this week and me and the kids have rode every day since. Fouling plugs in the 4-strokes (????), can't seem to dial the weather change in at this point. Ain't hard to change plugs though. Maybe go with a 7 instead of a DR8? IDK yet. Anyhow, just need some time to gather some $ and it's off to the trails.

Don't rub it in, lol. Seems every lobbying environmental group has bought another law into the books to shut down Montana. Everyone from everywhere else it trying to save this state, and we just don't need saved. With under 900,000 people in the 4th biggest state, we have plenty of fresh air and room, lol, but not enough tree-huggers it seems, lol!
