hey so wats the trick to getting these axles apart on the ytm 225Dx. i need to take it compleley apart and i cant even get the hubs off. take in mind that the rear swing arm is taken off and is not attached to the frame so its a lil harder to keep still.

I would start by reattaching it to the frame, or use a vise mounted to a bench, to hold it while you break the hubs loose, I know its a pain in the butt, only things that come to mind right away for a solution, and if you reattach it to the frame you might want to attach the shaft as well so it can be held by the motor

hey mike, try spraying each hub from the outside, with pb blaster or wd-40 spray each one a few times a day turn it up in the air so gravity will help get the lube where you need it. Then get yourself a big hammer and block of wood so you don't mess up your hubs! you don't need to hit it supper hard, just keep hitting it in different spots. May help may not ??

yea i been using some liquid wrench and i give it some hits. if i dont get it off by the time the bearings get here il gonna try and use some heat to expand it. i also hooked the swing arm back up to the frame and once trailprotrailpro parts get here i can hook up the rear brake for extra help

so let me understand fully what you are doing, you have the nuts off and the hubs are froze to the splines, if that is the case try tapping hubs on the edge either way with a block of wood and a dead-blow mallet to get them lined back up perfectly with the splines, and if all else fails look on the back side and see if some doofus tack welded them to keep them from slipping. You don't want to know how many honda rear axles I've seen with hubs welded on cause they stripped out the splines, and they still put the flipping nuts back on them

i cant get the hub nuts off. all i really need is to get the left one off so i can replace the bearings in the axle but the sob wont let loose ive heated it, lubed it, and beat it n isnt breaking loose. gonna try and get ahold of some air tools from a friend n give it ago

Take a 1/2 drive socket, I believe it a 21 or something close to that and put a piece of pipe on the rachet Be careful with impact gun, you could eat the nut up, I dont think there grade 8 nuts on there. Worst that could happen is you break the rachet and if its one with free replacement oh well. good luck

The impact should do it

yea i have tryed putting a pipe on the end but my breaker bar is 3 ft long. u would think that would do the trick. and the hubs rnt welded i took a look at that since muthey mentioned it.

here is another thought to try since it is only the nut you are fighting with take a steel chisel and a 3 lbs mallet and ever so carefully cut the nut from edge to edge, I have done that many of times, and if you need another nut let me know I have a few floating around I will give it to you. If you are wondering what I mean by edge to edge, start from one of the notches and go in towards the hub, just take little bites of depth at a time and eventually it will break loose, just have to be careful of the threads as you don't want to cut too deep into them.

ok i think i might have to try that so how many lines should i make it get it to break off? probly 3 right?

you'll only have to cut it once. as after the full cut is done it will releive the pressure and come right off I have done this many times with cross threaded nut and other things on lathes and hollow spindles

also like I said if you need a new nut let me know I have to look in my parts but I know I have one or two floating around

You mean the ring nuts? They are regular thread.

you might wanna just get a spanning wrench and add a cheater bar to it might be easier, and I would try and tighten the back one a lil, then go after the outside ring nut just need to break them loose from each other

Yes.

I had up to use a 3 foot pipe wrench to break mine loose.

if i use a c clamp to hold the back brakes in will that hole it tight enough for me to turn it?

I used another pipe wrench on the axle itself, handle on the ground to keep it from turning.

hey i finialy got all the bolts off and the manual says to tap the axle out with a rubber mallet. i spent 3 hours bangin on it with the rubber mallet and the regular mallet and my axle wont budge. am i forgetting something?
