hey guys, I jsut got my performacne 200x up and running. I do not have a stocker carb so I used 2 differnet chinese carbs w/o much luck (26mm and 27mm), then I got a quality japanese carb (30mm) and this thing is awesome! DUDES!!!!! it's like on sterriuods!!! your legsa re nearly flying behind you on acceleration!! (ok little too muchexageration but still funny) So when it runs, it's perrrrrfect. BUT..... no mater whatw edo, with timing, carb settings it will not let you kick start it. I got the feelign that since it was origionally designed for a ATV with an electric start, that kick starting doe not produce enoguh draw to pull fuel into the bowl to start it. Any thouhgts?
My next though was, since it runs like a Scalded ape with this 30mm and loves it, what can I do to fix this? I have done a ton of work on it but I'm not as fimular with kicking over racing bikes as I am with eletric start ones. I get the feeling my thoughts are correct and I may have to suck it up and loose the 30mm (that would really suck as it loves it!!!!) anyway, thoughs and ideas are greatly appreciated as I'm pondering jsut redoing a stocker for it since it's designed for a kicker. unless someone has a good ATV kick started carb they knwo about I can use. (28-30mm is what I want)

try putting 1/4 ounce of fuel in the cylinder and see what happens.

does this carb have a manual choke or an enrichment valve?

I have never heard of a carb being "designed " for kick or electric start. A local guy built a 200x with the 10.25:1 piston and needed to put a 200s head on it with decompression maybe look into that.

it's got a manual choke so i can put the lever no choke, half or full choked.
if I spray spray fluid into the carb and kick it spudders but still not starting. hrmm, maybe electronic? stator or cdi? i know it runs now, but hrmm, another thougth vs. the carb. (not enough power to start engine over?)

yea the kick carbs have a longer reach intot he bowl vs. the normal ones. they have a different suction peice that alows for easier suction of fuel into the engine fromt he carb. when you kick you cannot unless you jump on it kick as fast as a start turns it and still when you kic, it's only for a moment. not that it's not an official design change, but it helps. Look at the suttle differences betweem the 200x carb vs. the 200e/s/es/m carb. not just size but also things liek larger flow openijngs and angle of draw through for easier starting is different.

Sure sounds like a small pilot jet.

There are no electric start or kickstart 200X carbs...............

I think it's a safe bet that's not your problem.

ok we got it to start via kick. here's what I did. the piolate jet hole that the pilot jet screws into was pretty tiny, so I measured the 200x one and opened the carb casting hole up to the same size about 2 tiny bit sizes larger than it was. that allowed us to kick start it. so not sure if it's a carb design or just how this one was made. But hey at least we got it to go. You have to sorta tap the throttle while kicking it at the ame time for it to catch, but it will fire off after a couple of kicks. This tells me that i'm on the right track, not all I need to do is up the pilot jet a tiny bit and i'm good to go i think.
I'll try that later this week and let you know but i think it will be good. This is a Keihine carb. so it's a good one. worth the time i think.

yea i know DC 200x did not have electric, what I'm meanign is the carb has a larger pilot jet hole than the others.
