open up the swicth and check for water or mud in it, also run a check on the solenoid as well, my guess would be moisture in the switch itself

I would try the cleaning and drying first, if afterwords, it still doesn't work use an ohm meter to test the switch for continuity, you might get lucky and just have a broken wire. A new switch is a very expensive piece. Been awhile since I was in my switch but I believe it is only two wires and a contact, the water may have shorted a fuse, or the solenoid. Just remember the headlight and tail light run whether there is a battery or not all the battery runs is the starter.

Starter switches can get crud in them over time, especially if you flip over in water. The auto parts store has "Electrical Cleaner" make sure to get the stuff for sensitive electrical components. I buddy of mine thought brake cleaner wouldn't be too much different and it melted the starter button on a 70's Honda CB200.
It will clean out the switch good. You might have to disassemble it and lightly sand the contact points in the starter button.
