Simple. Trade the X for the R, and then get the Z.

Personally I would go with the Tri-z. I have never owned a tri-z but have owned every gen of Honda 250r's. I like the water cooled engines aswell vs the air cooled. Note for guys reading this: my opinion! Not bashing air foolers. But that being said, the Honda's are easier to get parts for. Tri-z's seem to have some common parts that are really hard to get. An 83R, parts seem to be common. So it's entirely up to yourself. All my opinion of course.
Guess after that I really didn't help, good luck.

thats your answer go for the 250r. get your truck on the road. so you can pick up the Lady's and bring them home and take them for a fast ride. and save up $$ after that for a tri z.

Well since you can get the 250R for a trade I would do that, get your truck on the road with a nice 250R in the back. The Tri-Z's are awesome but so are 250R's. And its fun riding a 3 wheeler in winter, but sometimes its nice getting in a dry heated cab when you need to go somewhere.

Go the R, sounds like you don't have the cash at the moment to support the Z. Liquid cooling and rarer parts will all make for extra complications that may impact on your riding time.
If the R is a goer in fairly good nick, I'd be jumping at it if I was you.
P.S. I Love Z's, I'm just thinking about what would be best fit for your circumstances.

I feel your pain, I'm 16 with no job due to excessive undergrading, out in the sticks, trading trikes all the time. Being broke aint no fun. I did pass up on an R recently, and I have an '86 Tri-Z coming to decide if it wants to stay Sunday.
And admittedly, I can ride any of my Hondas harder, longer than any other trike brand I've had.

if the R is running then theres your sign. You 200x will cost you to fix or you can be running a fooler for nothing. $1500 would fix your truck up for sure The Z would be fun but we all need our trucks
