Hello, so anyway, i bought this 250es about 6 months ago, ever since i have had it, it has shifted like the day it was bought in 85. It shifted better than our modern quads, and the 125m... In the whole time i have had it, it has never skipped out of gear aside from reverse, but i think that was a reverse cable problem, and even that happened once in a blue moon. I have babied this bike ever since i have gotten it.

So i was driving along a trail that is not on the property we own, about 15 minutes down the road, cruising in second because it was a very rutted, rough trail, the trail smoothed out, so i go to shift into third, with a more than enough let off of the gas, literally 0 rpm. And as i shift, it shifted into nothing, i look back at my buddy and say " F*** the bike skipped out of gear for the first time ever " Then i go to shift again to hopefully get it into gear, and nothing. On the side of the trail, i adjusted the clutch which did nothing..

Every 10th or so shift it would catch and shift into a gear, so i managed to get it into 2nd to drive out to the main road, third sometimes, and forth sometimes, non were ever in gear for a whole lot of time, was nervous as hell getting up the huge hill on the road. While trying to get it into gear SOMETIMES you would here a slight grind inside somewhere, i don't think it is the friction plates though...

I never had time on the weekend to start tearing into it to find the problem, so i was hoping someone on here may of had a similar issue with their 250es.

Thanks a lot for any info, Jason.
Let me know if you need to know more details

Don't be worried so much just yet, just don't ride it.......

Take off the left cover on the engine, lay it on the right side to save your oil if you wish.

In there you'll find springs and posts and the gear shift drum stopper etc etc. Take a look at a parts diagram to get familiar with it first.

My SX did it, my 350X did it; Both broke something different or something came loose. It was NOT an internal shifting issue but rather an external one behind that cover.

Tear into it, check it out, post pics if you have to and then you may find you need a simple part/gasket and shift shaft seal.

part#21 Is what it was on my BR... Was doing the exact same thing... Dont forget to order the gaskets! Took an hour or two, and now it shifts like new again...

Okay, thank you very much for the information, i wont be back up to my cottage until Friday though. And i also don't have a computer or internet up there, so it sucks ass when you need to figure something out.. Hopefully its a simple problem, i will investigate it this weekend when i go up.. i will update this thread with what i have found / pictures if i am unsure. Untill then, i need to go pickup another 125m that we bought. So that will tie me over until the bigred is fixed.

Thanks Jason.

Oh you bought the other 125m. Was the 250es the guy had trashed ? I guess you now have an extra rear fender for either of your 125's

The 250es the guy had was actually a 200e lol. Damn retarded Kijiji posters. Anyways, the guy is delivering the 125 to my house from niagra falls.. a good 2 and a half hours away! For free! Saves me 150 bucks gas with the truck and trailer.. Says either tommorow or friday, i hope for tommorow to do some test riding, if you know what i mean James.
