ok so my sisters 250sx at times the kick start wont grab the gear inside to start the bike and at times it does, also when u turn the bike off u can hear something inside spinning very fast then when it starts to slow down it knocks, what do u guys think it could be a bad return spring???

You need the one way bearing located inside the centrifugal clutch. About a 65$ part and a cover gasket/seal for the kicker.
Seems like 70% or better need them but we use electric start so much we don't know it.
When you shut it off it should sound like it freewheels then clunks, and the kicker slips; Thats the indicator right there...........

well see thats the thing for SOME god given reason, when i kick the bike it wont engage the gears but the electric start works THEN if the electric start DONT work becuz of it being an old switch the kick start works

^ Your talking about 2 different one way drive bearings, the starter has one behind the flywheel on the left side . The kicker one is where I mentioned on the right side; Thats the one you need...........

^ Battery, solenoid, ground or loose connection. Not too often the starters die, if they do the brushes are replaceable.......
Get out your wiring diagram and start tracing power when the ES doesn't work.
