Hello; I have the fortunate chance to get a 1984 Honda 125M 3 wheeler. Seems to run ok (maybe tune up) but, I have a trans question. It has two ranges, high and low. Also it has a 4 speed trans. When you attempt to shift out of first into second, it rotates the little knob above the high/low selector into nuetral. What's up with that? It does move and drive in first gear but, that's the only gear you have without going into nuetral when you try to advance thru the gears. Thanks, chubbie1

I believe it is all DOWN for shifting up. I am assuming when you shift into first, you push down, then shift back up as if you were going into second on another machine? If so, then yeah, the 125M should be all down.

Oh, I will try that. You know I'm so used to almost all motorcycles being, 1 down, 4-5 up that I didn't even think of that. Thanks so much. I was hoping it would be something simple. Such as tranny repair being in order being more complicated although do-able. Chubbie1

Well I tried shifting all down, there seem to be no gear advancement. Stays in the gear it was in. Only rotates knob into nuetral if you lift up selector as in downshifting. Must be something wrong in trans? Does same thing in high and low range.

Is that with the engine running, and the bike moving forward? If so, maybe check to see if your shifter might be slipping on the shaft.

sounds like your getting false neutrals.
so everytime pushing down on the shifter going from first to second you just end up in neutral? when you push down on the shifter again do you end up in first?

Hello; First of all, let me say thanks for the help so far. I checked to make sure the shift lever was not moving or slipping on shaft. And, as far as the engine running, it is running and warmed up. Moving forward and stationary the result is the same, or in either, hi or lo range. When you start, the unit is in nuetral. The only way to move under units power is to rotate the white knob clockwise (goes into gear). If, (while seated) you attempt to change gears (pressing down), there is no result to shifter movement. If however, you lift shift lever (as if downshifting) the white knob is rotated counter-clockwise, resulting in nuetral. Thanks, chubbie1

when shifting into 2nd, you need to be rolling forward. try that
and remember, the shift pattern is 4 down.

Make sure oil is filled, and sometimes shifting on these can be a pain sitting still, try rocking it forward and backwards while trying to shift.
