show me your solution for the coolant outlet to radiator hose. its a pretty sharp bend on the 89+ motor. I am considering getting the spout cut and repositioned on the head.
just wondering how everyone else did it. thanks.

I'm not a KXT500 guy, but I do pay attention to all of those builds, and I swear I saw the same issue on here. I believe their solution was a head from a different year KX500. Or, possibly the spigot was bolted to the head, and they unbolted it & spun it around 180 degrees for better clearance. I can't remember exactly now, but I know this has been discussed before.

Hi, Im in the same sistuation with the extreme angle. I plan on repostioning the elbo on the head about about 25 degrees down. Then use a inner hose spring to keep a nice form. I have been trying to see if any one knows were and how the mods are done using an 86 kx500 pipe. was wondering if you crossed that bridge yet.

The 88 engine that was originally installed had a removable spigot tha I had flipped over and I had a u shaped hose attached. As far as a pipe goes I had one custom made.

heres a pic of the 88 motor I had installed,

and the 97 motor that is currently in there.

I am leaning toward getting the spigot cut off and rewelded at a 90 degree angle down.
any ideas?

I'm assuming, using the '88 head on the '97 cylinder isn't an option?

What about a spiraled hose?
BTW those KX500 motors sit in there quite nicely, got some more piccies?
They must be a handful to ride, the 250 is already a Beasty.

why not mod the rad instead with an elbow?

is that a tecate 4 shifter? The kx shifter is to short and trying to find out what works best.

It does appear to be a T4, they work pretty well. That is a nice pipe. As far as the radiator goes, I have seen a guy put in a couple pvc elbows with short lengths of hose to make the turns. I do not recall what year the motor was though. I'm thinking it was an earlier model.

T4 shifter works fine.
I put a 2004 KLX110 /DRZ110 +1" shifter on mine. It is probably slightly shorter but it lines up with my boot and works fine.
Read it in here somewhere:

As far as the coolant hose, what's wrong with buying an "S" shaped one?
I just make the shape of what I need out of a coat hanger and take it to the local auto store and ask if they have somethin that shape with the right diameter. Has always worked after I cut off the excess I dont need.

I definitly thought about that, but was hoping to see what other people have come up with. I have 3 possibilities at this point. "S" shaped hose, reposition outlet on the head, repostion outlet on the rad. I am leaning toward modding the head at this point. I think it will be the cleanest most sano way. I was really hoping to get some experience to chime in. I know this bridge has been crossed, of course it may have been crossed with older motors for the most part. I have run an '86, '88, and am moving toward an '03 this '97 is just installed as a mockup for now. ('89-'04 motors are virtually the same btw)

I lean more towards the auto parts store method and buying a formed hose that you can make work is cheaper in the long run and involves alot less fabrication and heat wear on the motor.
