I was finally ready to start the R last night - out there till late (wasn't worth watching the game anyway!) but I tossed on my tank, mixed up some fuel and low and behold the inside of the lower portion of this tank is covered in varnish (bad gas) I threw in the gas overnight but if that doesn't work what else? Carb cleaner may eat it, I thought of spraying a rag with carb cleaner and using a coathanger or something. Any thoughts? Motor is new I will put a filter in but don't want any crap to deal with. Thanks!

i did the same thing for my freinds XR 100 yesterday i would reccomend useing a low power pressure washer and a spounge...not a rag on the end of a dowl...a coathanger will bend if u put preassure on it :P. Then drain as much of the water out of the tank as possible..fill the tank a quarter full then drain it so all of the water will be gone..good luck man

Thanks for the tip - sometimes I forget what I have :? But forget low pressure - I grabbed my 2700 PSI Honda pressure washer and blasted the sh!t outta that tank - would you believe even my tighest or rotary nozzle wouldn't get it all out?! It sat over 10 years with gas in (carb was just as much fun) But I got most of it out and then put some carb cleaner in there just for a few minutes and blasted that out and repeated a few times. It looks pretty good now. Amazing how well true carb cleaner eats away gas better than fresh gas which wouldn't even touch it!!!
