I have a 1986 125M and the spline on one end is stripped. Does anyone know if this is some how repairable? I thought maybe having it turned to clean it up then maybe have a spline/collar made that could be pressed on then welded. I'm concerned about the strength of the axle though after it is turned it would decrease the diameter. Any input would be appreciated. I can't find a used axle any where. Thanks Rod

if you have any machine shops around ask if they can cut new splines.

A machine shop should be able to machine a slot (keyway) in the axle and a matching one in the hub. Then they'll make a key to fit.

Just cutting new splines would decrease the size of axle so it would no longer fit hub and I don't think a keyway would be strong enough.

if not a key way type fix or your thoughts on a machine shop turning the axle end down + putting some kinda after market hub on 1985 200s ,,,
( both wich sound like it would run alot more money then a nice used axle unless you have a freind who is a machinist )
how about drilling hole straight thru hub + axle and using those hardened slotted steel dowles the you hafta hammer or press in ?
i might do 2 per hub. you would be able to do this yourself for next to nothing cost wise, stll removable too. but you still would be taking the axle strengh down a notch or two,,, just my thoughts.

That may have some potential. A used axle would be ideal but I can't find one. In the other posts I've seen, they say an 86 125M is rare but not that rare but the parts sure as hell are EXTREMELY rare. I do have a friend who is a machinist/proffesor at a local college maybe he can help.

If you cant find an axle anywhere, maybe you could have the axle welded up, then have the splines remachined back to original. This is how they fix crankshafts. might be costly, but your only option. good luck.

I was concerned about temper of steel after doing that but they must be able to re temper it. Thanks

its a 125m.. temper of steel isnt a big deal i wouldnt think..., he's not flying through the trails on that bike... and he sure isnt jumping.

if it was a sport trike, then i'd say get a new axle..

just buy howdy's.... thats your best bet
