In danger of ticing people off I'm gonna ask you highly knowlegeable people this one.... I have a chance to pick up this YT for $100. No pipe, no pull starter. Been looking on ebay and pull starters are quite rare and quite pricy! Gentleman says it runs but without a pipe how would he know????? What do you guys think.

Engines don't need a pipe to run, but they won't run right from the lack of back pressure. I'd buy it, even if it takes a few hundred to fix it up, you'll only be into it that much.

Thanks express. You know, in 30+ years of riding and racing I never, once, even considered running an engine without a pipe! Thanks for the info!
BTW if anyone happens to have an old yt 175/125 pull starter laying around, let me know!

I'd get it, pipes aren't to bad in price, and you can, if you really wanted, tire a rope around the pull start to start it, or push start it.
Some port work really goes a long way for these machines also. It can make them scary fast.
