Been looking Craigslist for a while for a 250r.I only have 500 bucks so you can imagine its hard to find,at least its is in Houston, they dont come up that often and when they do theyre out of my price range.Plus its very hard for me to get there in time around my work scvhedule. So I saw this last nite, was able to look at it before work this morning, didnt have time to go over it real good, just took a chance.Guy selling it thought it was a 200r,which we know its not.So is it a 250r? Where is vin # located on these? It looks like pics of an 84 to me but im a newbie to these.

I got it for 500 but I know Im going to have to put some work into,we couldnt get it started,it push started for about 10 seconds and that was it,but for 500 bucks I had to take the chance.

That's sharp. Looks like an 82 250r with a 200x or 83-84 250r front end. Looks like it may have a chromed Bassani silencer on it too.. I would have snatched that up for $500. Nice grab. Lovin the desert seat. Got any pics of the carb setup?

Nice find man! Definitely an 82 250R with a HiFlite seat, pipe, DG head, 200X front end conversion, possibly an extended axle. Screaming deal for $500. Get a grab bar so when you stand it straight up you don't bust those nice plastics all up :D

Like said above, the easiest visual difference is the gas tanks.
The below picture is from the first generation ATC 250r

Your ATC 250r is a 1982. The 1981 atc250r had a rear break drum while 1982 had rear disc breaks.

what is an answer boost bottle?

A boost bottle is used to help an engine run a little better when its RPM's are under the useful range of the pipe. Carburetors will double dip - that is double jet the mixture coming from the carburetor due to the intake signals received by it (a suck and blow situation). It will push the mixture back past the jets and (try to) jet it again. This makes a condition which is too rich - hence the double jetting and the dip in torque. This usually occurs at an RPM level just before the power is coming on the pipe. This happens to the Blaster engine at about 5000 RPM. The boost bottle will capture and release its charge when the frequency of wave amplitude within the inlet pipe is within its working range. To tune out the dreaded (and well known) 5000 RPM torque dip the Blaster can be fit with a bottle volume of 250 CC - this includes the bottle itself and the connecting hose. When the bottle volume, tube length and tube diameter are properly designed it will work as intended.
not mine, from wiki.

A boost bottle holds a charge of mixed air (atomized fuel and air) that is there when the throttle is opened which improves throttle response (by entering the engine faster, by not being pulled throught the airbox, filter, carb etc.) and improving the overall 1/4 throttle running of a 2 stroke engine. It acts much like the intake plenum on a car. There is much discussion on whether or not they do anything on a properly jetted bike. A lot of bikes back in the 80's used a boost bottle (Yamaha especially). As carbs improved the boost bottle disappeared.
