I may be getting a 85 Yamaha 225DX for a song, but I have experience with Hondas only. What would it compare to Honda-wise?

I'd compare it to the 250sx, it was Yamaha's sport styled 4 stroke.

Good bike, Shaft drive, disc rear brakes

I would say the 250sx as well.

Yeah 250sx but more snappy and wheelies like none other.

The 225 feels more torquey than the Honda. I don't know if it is or it's just gearing but it feels stronger on the bottom. I don't like the wider tire of the Yamaha, makes it feel a little unresponsive compared to the 250SX.

How I see it, is that the 225DX feels like a mixture of a 250sx, and a 200es. It's sporty and peppy like an SX, but it's kinda cumbersome to ride, and heavy like an ES.

I can tell you this if it is a good runner you may change your outlook on hondas, for one yamaha still makes quite a bit of the parts for it, and with a plastic fuel tank you never have to worry about it rusting out. Plus you can change the rear hubs out to four bolt ones and have a very wide variety of tires rims and sizes. I tend to stay with the 22-11-8 myself and I don't find the trike cumbersome at all even comparing it to a honda 185's

you wont be disappointed with the ytm 225,whats not to love about 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies from dead stop.

I've had both the 250sx and the 225dx. The dx is pretty sporty for a utility trike. Not quite as low geared as a honda I dont think(would only spin 2nd gear in the sloppy mud as to the honda spinning in 3rd) Seems to not steer as good as a sx. Dx feels alot lighter in the front. DX wheelies all day long. All in all a great all around machine like a sx, does alittle bit of everything but nothing really great.
