I got the same thing going on with my 185s. Tried, measured, swapped, & checked everything, but still happens randomly .When it does shut off,- it has little or no spark at times then after a while it starts up like nothing happened:(. Youre electrical stator setup is different than mine but same crap goin on -sounds like. I'm possibly gonna give those RMSTATORS a shot- I hope theyre really better than those other replacement ones. They claim high performance quality copper windings & cost a only a little bit more than the other ones & got a 1 year warranty.... If you've checked everything- else then go for replacing it.

Go to the manuals and troubleshoot. But both SOUND like CDI box. They're fairly popular machines,if you know anyone with a good running one, switch boxes.

I dont think its the CDI box becuz i was with 3wheelrider when it happened to him, thank god we had a new spark plug thats the only way we got the bike to start, which is weird that it took the plug riding thru a dry trail.

do a quick check on the plug to the cdi box, just a thought but if there is no dielectric grease in there and you have high humidity , it can cause funny things to happen

I just fixed a spark issue on an 84 200S today, take the cover labeled CDI off the top left of the engine, remove the two phillip head screws that you can see hold the pulse generator plate(round metal plate, magnetic) orr, and make sure the bolt is in the end of the generator shaft, if it's not, or loose, or anything, just try and pull that magnet out with you hands, if it's will slide out ANY, the small pin holding it in could have came out(very, very easy if the shaft moves), that causes the shaft not to align with the magnets correctly, and cause either no spark, or a bit of spark every now and then.

It sounds complicated, but it's a very simple process, you'll need a ratchet with an 8mm socket, a philips head screwdriver, and if the bolt is loose, a 10mm socket.

I tried EVERYTHING with that darn S, and I just thought about that, looked, and bingo was it's name-o.

I forgot about that the red dust in there can give you a hell of a time too make sure to clean and wipe all that out

Yeah, PB Blaster in light amounts and some cloth works great on cleaning out the pulse generator and everything.

I had a similar issues with my KLT(gave me hell).... It ended up being a bad ground on the coil, or a slighly dead battery, or a bad plug. I fixed all them before i got a good spark lol

I do have an RMSTATOR CDI on it. It works great.
