I found a set of FMF carbon reeds for my T3 for $10 and took the top end apart to find what you see in the pictures. A stock T3 reed is shown with the yellowish "stuffer" ( I think that's what its called) and the 4 carbon petals on each side. The reed valve in the bike had a removable black "stuffer" as well as being narrower with only 2 reed petals per side and the reeds being held on with only 3 screws. The reeds I found were for an 86 KX500, but I checked the application guide and they were supposed to fit the kx250 and kxt, so I dug out an old reed valve from a T3 and the reeds fit great. But I don't know what the vavle in the bike was from, and what jetting changes will need to be made, if any. Any ideas of bikes that would have the same bolt pattern but narrower and shorter reeds? or what effect a larger valve will have? I'm thinking that the jetting might need leaned out a little.

the larger one is a stock KX/KXT 250/500 cage.. the tiny POS one is a FMF ram valve..

LOL, well, POS wasn't exactly what I was thinking, but I couldn't figure out why you would want a smaller one. I looked for an aftermarket name but didn't see any markings. Thanks for the info.

fmf made them so that all the 250's took the same petals, they were not made for max output. espececially on '87 quadracers and kawasakis where they decreased reed tip area and added crankcase volume vs. OEM. They may have some merits at low rpms, but I was happy to see mine go when i sold it on ebay

As you probably saw, I put the new reeds on the stock valve. I haven't ridden it yet as it just keeps raining here. It seemed to run pretty well with that one in there, so I guess I'll see if I can tell a difference.
