I need help guys. I have an 85 250 tecate in real goob shape. The bike will start..idle for 10-20 seconds...then revs up all by itself to the danger of blowing up right before I kill it. I let it set for a couple minutes.... same thing all over again. I want to cry. (not really) please please help. Thanks.

I would say start it up and before it starts revving up on its own spray carb spray all around where the carb meets your engine, if it revs up from the spraying you could have a vacuum leak in which case it might need new gaskets for the carb ... it also could be starved for fuel. I would try the other thing first but if that doesn't seem to solve it adjust your fuel to air mixture on your carb so it has more fuel in it and see how it works. I would say check the spark plug too while your at it, worn plugs can cause problems. The only other thing that comes to mind is check the choke cable perhaps, it could be sticking so when your choke is in the off position its still on and its dumping tons of fuel even when not needed. Oh, it could just downright need a carb rebuild if nothing else seems to correct it. Hope the input helps man!
