84 200x brake hose question

Is the brake hose that goes from the master cylinder to the rear brake wrapped in heat resistant fiberglass or is it just a cotton wrap? My hose touches the new exhaust pipe.

Try and loosen the brake line and turn it a bit. This may require bleeding the brakes but it burnt a hole in mine so I had to anyway. I also wrapped that area of the line with heat reflective tape. I took it a step further and fabricated a bracket to hold it away from the hose and fender. This may be easier? They sure didn't leave much room!

Well, I tied some baling wire around the air box to hold it out of the way for now. It looks like I can flip the hose inlet to the master cylinder then route the hose up and around the front side of it and then to the reservoir. It would still be interested to know if it is fiberglass or not.

The originals are not heat resistant. I found that out quickly. Not sure what they are made out of though. The one I have now is steel braided with a rubber coating. Before I made the bracket and re-routed the line it burnt through the rubber but not the steel. It may have held up but didn't want to take any chances.

I use the stainless steel braided water supply lines you get at Lowe`s or (insert home improvement chain store name here) for running water to a toilet or icemaker...costs about $8.00 for a line long enough to do two bikes...I cut off the ends and cut length to fit...I had some heat shrink tubing I shrink on the ends to reduce the "fraying" of the stainless braid...the spigot on the master for the rear WILL rotate if you do it carefully....has an o-ring seal...but if it`s been on the master for awhile untouched , you might have to remove the ring clip to let it loose a little to turn it where you need.

Edit to say I did check the type of plastic the water line was made of to confirm brake fluid would have no effect and it was the same type as what they use in brake bleeder hoses so I`m safe. If only I could remember if it was polystyrene or polyvinylchloride (pvc) but I`m thinking it was polyvinyl
