so today i decided to take the big red down to the river to go fishing.
i loaded all my stuff on and went on. so i went to start it and nothing but a click. i tried again, click click click. so i figured maybe the battery was weak, just kick started it and went. its about a four mile drive to my fishing spot so i figured it would charge when i drove. when i was done i tried again. nothing but the same horrible click. so i checked my connection, everything was good. i tapped the starter while holding the start button and it did make noise like it would start.:wondering
so my question is, do i have to completely replace the starter?

Its probably your starter brushes if it clicks only once when pusing the start button but your should make sure that its the problem before spending money. I'm not familliar with testers and electric things but someone might chime in to help you.

You could try to bypass your solenoid and see if it start. Use something metallic to touch both positive and negative on the solenoid. If it starts, your solenoid is bad.

i checked the solenoid, it did not start when i touched the positive and negative with a screw driver. i looked on ebay and i think ill end up buying one like atc007 said. they are pretty cheap

brushes and end plate are like 35$ with other old parts
and very low on the bragging rights scale.
so 50 is good.

I think I called the company directly instead of bidding.
