I have some shady neighbors and a lot of kids going up and down the alley behind my garage. I was wondering if anyone knew of a company that insures 3wheelers for theft... Or if maybe it is covered under the home owners policy ? I currently have State Farm. I plan on giving them a call tomorrow, but thought I would check to see what you guys have to compare...
Thanks!!!

i have state farm and recently had mine stolen (recovered now, waiting for impound release). my SF rep said if you can claim it as something you use around the yard (even if it's hauling a wagon just picking up sticks) it can fall under the homeowners policy. if you claim it for riding around for fun or hunting etc.. then it needs it's own policy. they'll insure it against theft, now bodily injury.....? lol

That's right. My insurance company also told me that I needed separate coverage for my trikes. I've never checked to see what it costs to add.

SF sucks, huge, veiny donkey bits.
They decided the day before I was going to get my license, that the insurance easing driver's ed I had been taking the previous year, wasn't going to count for trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. Out of the blue, after verifying that it was a valid course.

Did you have to tell them ahead of time so they could mark it on your policy? Or did you just deal with it after it was stolen ? I did use my BR to pull my 16' trailer once... Not sure I can justify the 350x as a stick grabber...maybe a lawn cultivator? lol....

Hmmmm, label it as a plow.
Or a dirt spreader.

I am not aware of any coverage available for trikes, since the manufacturing ban went into place. The traditional coverage for atv's is not available for trikes. I tried several and gave up. Shoulda left the trike stock

State Farm will insure a trike, or at least in Canada they will, My 81R is insured for theft, fire, and PLPD (Public liabilty and personal damage) up to a million I think, and its only 10$ a month.

He is right. I just called last week and Most of the big companies will NOT cover 3 wheeled Atv's for anything.
You can however cover 1 for land use under a homeowner fire/theft policy.
However, they will only give you blue book value for the machine and most trikes do not go above 300$ for that value.
I wonder if you could get some kind of bond insurance. But I bet it won't be cheap.

years ago i had geico and asked about insuring it, they said yes. i had a 200x gave them the vin and the lady told me it would not be a problem. i never did it because i ended up parting the bike a month later.

Something else...if it is insured and it's stolen or totalled, I don't believe they're gonna pay out till you provide them with a title.
Had a friend whose quad was burned up in an enclosed trailer while rolling down the road. He had to hire an attorney and get a court order forcing Dept of Revenue to title it, just so he could collect the coverage amount. It was only a few years old, but the penalty fees were several hundred dollars too.

I am dealing with Allstate right now on covering all my ATVs & ATCs. They will cover them all clasified as ATVs with a $500 deductible, but as Mosh said above, they value them to low to be worth the cost of the policy. The paper value of your best ATC is nothing compared to its accual worth as we all know it.
A title is not required here in La, but they do want to visually see the bike and have a picture of it on file. They are also considered movable vehicles so no homeowners policy will cover it no matter what you use it for.
I insured both my predator and BR. told them " old honda, 200cc, would like full coverage" they never asked, and I never told. 58.00 a year for everything including theft. AllState

I pay $80 a year each for my 250r's full coverage but if I had a claim it would be blue book for the pay out like $450. This is with state farm also

Wait till you have a claim and let us know how that "never told, never asked" thing works out.

I keep insurance on mine just in case I get hurt riding it...the BB value is only listed at 500 so not worth it if it gets stolen, but I believe they'll pay medical on it up to 25,000.

So what if I was to get my 250r or 350x street legal here in AZ? It is possible as I personally know of a 2 stroke blaster that IS street legal. Along with a few other things to become street legal I would be required to get Insurance, which would be just like any other vehicle/motorcycle insurance. I guess it is time to look into it.

I would think you are correct Mr. Clean.
My main concern was fire, as all mine are parked adjacent to my shop which is full of flamables and welding work. I know that does not sound very smart, but it is the way it is. If my shop burnt down, my homeowners would cover everything in it except the ATV/ATCs. I was quoted a group policy for 2 trikes and 4 4-wheelers but the deductible will be $500 for each one. I asked them to let me know their estimated value on each one and that is where I stand right now. They have not gotten back to me with these estimates. I am curious to know what my 86R & 86X are worth on paper to an insurance co. They are in great condition and non-replaceable to me.
own a computer? can afford a camera? not mentally incapable of plugging in some wires? put a camera on your trike..wherever its stored.....someone steals it...grab ya gun and go get it back. ez pz.
i sleep like.... 10 feet from mine so good luck stealing it from me, they wouldn't make it far.

Did you have to tell them ahead of time so they could mark it on your policy? Or did you just deal with it after it was stolen ? sadly yes i had to deal with it after it had been stolen. it's getting covered with it's own policy as soon as i get it back from impound. i told my SF rep it was a trike not a quad, he said they would still cover it.
