okay so i just bought a 85 200x the other day and ripped her all apart and cleaned her up and threw it back in. The engine runs great and seems as if it has a ton of power. But the only thing is that it smokes like crazy, i no this is because i need to rebuild the top end. But what do i need to do to rebuild it what parts do i need? I think im going to ride it how it is until i get sick of the smoke. If anyone could let me know. Also how hard is it to rebuild the top end? Thanks

Be careful!!!! The early 200 series engines didnt have bearings on the cam... The cam lays in a machined journal in the head, when the topend wears out from not being serviced/maintained the cam will wear the journal out of spec in the head and the head is nonrebuildable! You will find yourself buying a used head off of someone and it could be junk too you never know(been there, done that... took me 3 purchases before i found a good usable head). Who knows what the engine looks like on the inside... Take my advice tear it down and rebuild it, it will be a lot cheaper if you do it now. I cant really tell you what parts to buy, you wont really know until you find out. You might get lucky and just have to hone the stock bore, clean up the piston and rering it, reseat the valves and throw a timing chain in it..

this is what AtcFactoryRacer is talkin about!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF_HZcGUiG8 I could recomend a guy who can fix it for $80, I think he welds it, and line bores it, needs your cam for measurements. If your valve seats are lappable, spark plug threads are good and exhaust studs are ok, its the way to go, otherwaise its buy a few junk heads off ebay. I got one off a member here, but I was lucky. mine smoked bad, seems like a 200x smoker is going to run $300 to fix, mine was t-chain/guide, new valves, piston/rings/bore gasket kit and a head off 3WW
