well i got this idea from a members build. a 3 wheeler with a sled engine in it. only this is a 200x with a 470 crammed in it. it took allot of thinking and cutting and welding but it is doable. i used all kinds of parts to make it work. its pretty much done now. i cant wait to see what it will do. anyway here are the pictures.

:D

Where does the tranny go? I cant wait to see this. Buddy is thinking bout putting a Polaris 400l engine in another frame. I'll be watching this thread, and sending him this way to check it out.

there is no tranny. the belt from the engine to the second clutch witch is attached to a jackshaft then the jackshaft has a sprocket on the other end then the chain runs from that sprocket to the rear.

Nifty. If you did want a transmission, you could get High, Low, and Reverse outta Polaris tranny. I know the 400 and the 350s had all that, I image all the 250 had it too. I'd check it out, Be nice to have a High, Low and a Reverse gear :)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-Polaris-Trail-Boss-250-2wd-Transmission-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3f09d1de43QQitemZ27074 7688515QQptZMotorsQ5fATVQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories They also have the brake on the tranny, less stuff going to the axel.

If you REALLY want to try something nuts, get a 4x4 transmission, run a chain to the front, then a drive shaft up to the steering stem toss a sprocket on the front wheel and a chain off the shaft. The Rocons 2 wheelers have 2 wheel drive set up similar to this. THEY ARE AWESOME

Be the first 3x3 :)

Looks like a clean build! I know where your coming from when you say a lot of thought, lol. I spent many any hour just looking and thinking about my build. Keep up the great work!

those handle bars look so far away that you would have to be 7ft tall to reach.. is it really that far or just look like that in the pics

Good question. How are you going to reach the bars? Where are you going to put your feet? If it's done where are the finished pics?

Cool. Keep in mind that there is a slight difference in float valve and needle jets for summer and winter use when you get to the tuning part. Let me find my notes and I'll come back with the info on that.
Otherwise, have you come up with a final drive ratio ? Are you using a chaincase or belt setup to drive the "coutershaft" sprocket or you going with a monstrous rear sprocket?

ok .. its almost complete. the bars are not that bad to reach. its not 100% comfortable and it really doesnt need to be. this is not a trail ride trike. its met for drags or/and having fun on long straight aways .

my foot peg mount in the same spot as stock only they are out more. somewhere about 8 inches out. i couldnt find any other way to mount them so thats gunna have to work for the time being. im not too happy with having to ride like a horse but itll work for now.

thanks tapper !! just think some of the parts on this build came from you years and years ago. lol or it seems that long ago anyway. nice to see your still on the site. :D

yea im aware of the jetting different. cool thing about the older mx sleds is the manual has a chart that has different jetting for different temperatures. that really helped me out big time. it will get me close enough to where i can dial it in from there.

as for a my drive line .. no there is no chaincase its a belt to a shaft with the sprocket on the other side. many people would call it a direct drive . i thought of making it a chaincase type of drive line but decided against it.

i may have not answered all the questions in order but i hope i got em all. if i missed one im sorry im ignoring you. i gotta say this much ive always loved the input and question on this site.

Wow, I understood what you meant the first time around but was wondering if you'd eliminate the gearing ratio provided by the chaincase normally found on sleds. The concern is that, on a sled, the jackshaft output is reduced by roughly 1/3rd by the time it gets to the track sprockets which are only around 8~10 inches in diameter (as opposed to 20" tires). I'm only stating that by having your "contershaft" sprocket at 1:1 with the secondary pulley, you'll need a 100 (?) tooth rear sprocket or something like it.

EDIT: Wait! I might have read that wrong! ">>no there is no chaincase its a belt to a shaft with the sprocket on the other side<<".
You're eliminating the chaincase for a cogged belt with a reduction ratio through cogged pulleys, yes? I envisioned a sprocket on a shaft at the other end of the "driven pulley".

im reducing gearing by trying different sprocket sizes on the front and rear. i can also adjust the clutches so i can get the rpm s up to turn the tires. another member on this site made one a few years back and it seemed to work out good. so i figured id build one too. only thing is he had a beefy frame and an engine with about 40 or so more hp than mine. mine is rated at 85 hp stock.

What about crank seals and PTO bearings? I know that you know to mark up the rotary valve and shaft before splitting the cases...

Can't wait to see this thing!

BTW, what pistons d'you get?

i got new seals and bearings in it . i also just adapted it from dual carb to a single. i also just ordered a custom rear sprocket from sidewinder . its got got ballz for sure. next year its going on spray. cant wait !!

new pics of the beast in the making. now what tires should i run is the question ?

wow. is all I can say. 85 hp is pretty good for a rotary valve 470 stock! I think my 800 was putting out about 200hp stock. lol

put some paddles on that baby and hit the sand drags:twisted:

i was thinking bout paddles on some bead lockers. then i may invest in some mud lites or something like that for the dirt drags.

oh one more question for anyone that knows the answer . is there any rear shock up grades for the 83-85 200x ? as in will a shock from any other machines fit or be made to fit ?

got a nice big 72 tooth sprocket made by sidewinder for it. it even aligns with the front sprocket pretty good too all things considered.
