Just picked up a '83 (even though the registration papers say '82 for some reason) 185s and was out fiddling with it in the garage.
Stoopit kestion: How the heck do I get at the air box? I tried to take the seat off -- the latch works great, like new -- but the seat won't lift.
QUESTION: How do you get at the air filter? I assume under the seat? How do you lift the darned seat?
I took off two bolts at the back of the seat. Are there more? Maybe I'm pulling the seat backwards, trying to pull it out, when I should be pulling forward?
There is something obvious that I can't see.

Sorry if this question is stoopit, I'm new at this -- first bike. And I'm having a ball!! Great site, keep up the good work!
Cheers,
FOST

The seat and fenders are bolted together and come off in one piece. Pull the latch and lift the back of the fenders. It should come right off.
If it don't the back brackets might be catching some where. In this case just wiggle the seat/fenders side to side a little to get them loose.

I hope that helps. ;)

is it only the 84 models that only the seat comes off?

If it has the squared off fenders it is just the seat that lifts off.

The 185s were only made ( or sold in the US ) from 1981 thru 1983.

In the US in 1984 they didn't make a 185cc 3 wheeler. They did make a couple different 200cc models though. Those were: ATC 200, ATC 200es, ATC 200s, & ATC 200x. The seat on all the 84 model ATC200, ATC200es, and the ATC200s models came off seperate from the rear fenders.

Only on the 200x's did the seat and fenders come off together. ;)
I hope that helps.
