250r gearing HELP!!!

I got a 83 250r just finished this weekend first test drive on the trails get into the last gear and I figure I was going about 30 mabey 35 mph only I got 18's on 8 tires on the back stock 42 tooth rear sprocket I did buy a 12 tooth front sprocket by accident meant to buy the 14 one. If I could get 60-65 mph I would be happy. So everybody tell me what you gear yours at tires, sprockets?????

I like 14/40 with 18" tires but if you already have a 42 try putting the 14 on the front and see if you need more. I gps mine over 65 mph with that gearing but it has had porting and revs to the moon.
