thats a nice looking tecate for $1500 in Canada. i know i guy who bought one of theses for $1200 and it didn't even run! as long as the motor sounds tight the oil leak shouldn't much just a new gasket. if you go look at it check around the case bolt they my have been over torqued and cracked the case that may be causing the leak

If you can afford it, want it, and have trouble finding them, go for it!

I had a leak on my Tecate like that . I rode 2 hours double up when my friend broke his arm (Before cell phones)the chain was so tight it roached the counter shaft.

Trike is at Cambell River. I live in Vernon. If it was closer it would be in my shop right now, aslong as it is as good as the guy says it is . I dont want to to use up all that time travelling just in case I decide against it. So please buy it , it is making me nuts (lol)

This is the first Tecate I have come across. I dont know much about them. What makes the 85-87 better than the 84

The 85 has aluminum wheels, front disc brakes, a brace in the footpeg, 2mm larger carb, grease zerks on the dogbone, adjustable rear shock, seperate light and kill switches, 4/156 rear hub spacing (84 was 4/4, 85 won't fit inside an 8" wheel), there are also some small frame differences. The 85 was longer and lighter. The seam on the inside of the frame where the footpeg mounts is fully welded on an 85, spot welded on an 84. The rear carriers are different where the rear caliper mounts.

Yeah I was wondering about that. Makes me a little nervous its been bored out to that size. However maybe the guy does not know for sure . He kept calling it a KX trike and did not know it was a Tecate

You can't physically bore an oem cylinder that big without a big bore sleeve. A lot of people screw up their decimal points and add it together.. Truth be told the only difference between the 84-85 Tecate motor and the 83-84 KX250 motor is a split exhaust port, an extra port on each side in the KX jug. That and the transmission gearing. The KX cylinder is good for a +5 hp boost just by bolting it on the Tecate bottom end.

Yes, but there wouldn't have been any differences until '85 when the A2 came out. Just sayin... :D

What about the cdi and stator. There different. Im the guy from Nova Scotia who bought a tecate for 900 actually. The 3rd time i bought the bike back. To me there is no other 3 wheeler for trails and playing around in pits and stuff. 250rs all years feel like im a dog humping a foot ball.

Believe me, I would never stoop so low as to ever doubt your majestic and all knowing knowledge of all 3 wheelers.. You're the man.
As far as I can tell you are the guy with lots of talk.. and that's about the extent of it. In another thread you posted you just picked up an 85 Tecate. Now you wouldn't cross the road for one.. Good luck with that.
