This weekend was paint weekend. I took the plastics off and painted the yellow with no issues. Waited 24 hrs and painted the black. In order to do that I had to tape off some of the yellow. I had also put some newspaper on the side panels just to make sure. Well Put them in the sun to paint them today and I think that was a big no no.

I pulled the tape off the side panels when the black was dry and be dammed if the newspaper stuck to the 24 hr old yellow paint!!! gonna get some decals to cover that part up so not a big deal.

Next I pulled the tape off the fenders and damn paint peeled off again!!! This time a big spot. So I will sand that and repair that. Shouldnt be too bad.

Here are the pictures.

The Back and the front fender and headlight turned out good though.

sounds like it didn't have a long enough time to cure, maybe high humidity

Ya thinking that the cure time was off. The side panels sat in the house so not high humidity.

I think my mistake was putting them in the sun, think It baked the paper onto the paint.

The decals I have in mind will cover it no problem though. One good point is its in the ex\ct same spot on both sides so the decals will match lol

were you using krylon fusion?if so that is why it peeled off the metal patch panels.fusion doen't stick good to metal.in my experiance anyways.

I did use krylon fusion. That was all plastic that it peeled off. The white is plastic puck board. The stuff you see in Hockey rinks.

Dont think Its the paints fault, pretty sure its my fault. Maybe I should edit the title lol

This is what I know about Krylon . First wash whats to be painted with warm soapy water . I use Dawn . Then shake the paint and set the paint and object in the sun ,shaking paint every few minutes . Take paint and object out of the sun . One and only one light coat . Allow to dry . repeat process two times . Allow paint to cure overnight . Thin coats cure better and are even more flexable. I also use RC car paint with great sucess .Oh take the tape off while the paint is still soft , I use the blue tape from Home Depot and pinstripe tape. Wet sand as needed .

I didnt do the sun trick but put the paint can in warm water like I always do. Fenders were nice and warm too.

The paint I used was the green painters tape we sell to body shops at work.

not too worried as its not a show trike just a fun rider. I will fix it tues or wed and see what happens lol

Surface prep, surface prep, surface prep... I always wipe down with laquer thinner before I paint. Also, for painting plastics, I highly recommend the use of an adhesion promoter (ie: http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=1&prodid=56 )

I did use a thinner from work to wipe it down first.

From what I knew Krylon was supposed to mean nothing before painting.

It stuck fine everywhere else it seems.

Oh well its only 5 bucks a can if I have to redo the fenders I will lol

Nothing for prep, is kinda like "universal fit"... Doesnt really fit anything!

Yup I learned my lesson now didnt I ;)

I will get some tomorrow as well I have decided that I am going to put a thick clear coat on it. We sell a very good one at work that will harden everything right up. And if I put it over my decals I am going to add then I dont have to worry about them coming off when washing
