I just bought a 90 CR250, the 89-91 are basically the same bikes. I traded a Yamaha Moto 4 for it that I had $100 in. The engine was trashed and in a box. Someone had misunderstood how a 2 stroke worked. They filled the tank with gas and the crankcase with premix-LEVEL FULL! Need less to say, it cause catastrophic engine failure, still have the cases to prove it, lol. The parts are hard to find for them, 92 and later is completely different. I just bought a set of case earlier this week on ebay, after passing them up at $140 each for a couple months. The parts to completely rebuild the top and bottom end was $366, crank rebuild was $45, boring was $35, set of cases was $106. That's everything new except tranny gears, crank, cylinder and head. I may be putting it together next week, might be able to assist you after that if your cases do have to come apart.
Code200K, what book do you have? I could use one that shows how everything goes back together in the tranny.

^yes that is!
My bud Larry the 89 and I had the 94.
He did nothing to that 89, and I mean NOTHING. It just ran and ran for about 4 years on any junk oil known to man until the crank finally let go. He rode it to work every day, it was bulletproof!
Jeremy Mcgrath rode the 93 CR250 for as many years as he could, he loved the feeling of the frame.
Here is my old 94:

To answer your original ? . The fr sprocket seal, countershaft , simply goes behind the fr sprocket. Simple as that. 15 minute job. Hopefully : )
