I have a trx250 shaft drive 4wheeler. My question is, will the differential work in a 250es Big Red or a 250sx. From the looks of the rearend it is wider in the back than a SX or Big Red but all i need is the ring and pinion.
I have been told it will and it won't. Does anybody have any idea if it's the same?
Thanks
Jay

hi jay.
what year is your trx250 ? and before i open my big mouth to far are the fourtrax + trx units the same thing ?
my clymers manual is eluding to the fact that the final drive (pig) is the same on sx, es + fourtrax up to 1987.

Scott it looks the same but i'm not sure if it's the same. John, it's a 1986 . i'm guessing its a trx but it may be a fourtrax. I don't know to much about them except the engine is the same.
Thanks

The differential should inner change. But the axle, yoke, hubs, ect probably won't. I hope this helps.

the es and trx differentials will interchange... the rear brakes are made totally different between an 85 and 86 trx 250..are you going to change out the whole swingarm or just the differential... a fourtrax and trx are the same thing..
hope this helped

it will fit....would be best to take to mechanic shop to inspect the gears, they can put bushings in to make it work properly..dont forget to replace the seals....
I know form experience, a mechanic saw we had a gear tolerance problem and it was off by a few thousands of an inch, he installed the correct bushing to take up the tolerance and it took out the noise that was coming fom my the gears
........my 2 cents
