We are wanting to fabricate some racks for our SX. Does anybody have any good pictures of some and how they are mounted.

I know you want fabrication
type pix but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to shoot some.

The 3 I have are mounted with holes thru the fender plastic so I don't know if that's
factory or homemade.
Seems like they both pivot off of the grab bar in the back but
the front mount is the funny part.

I don;t like holes in plastic so I hope there is another way for you.

I got a set of rear racks from my 85 250sx that I took off and don't want..they are home made and mount to the grab bar holes without going thru the fender.

Might cost a bit to ship them but their yours for free if you want. They are just behind my shop, I can take a pic and send it to you to look at..

Shipping from my Michigan address might cost you 40-50 (just a guess)..

here's a couple more pix.

I lke the ones that flip out of the way to get the plastics off.

They have some standard pipe type pinch clamp that bites the grabbar so it can pivot out of the way
but not sure I like holes in the plastic.
Not sure I've seen an actual honda factory sx rack.

Wonder if the sales brochures posted on 3ww will give you any ideas?

here are 2 different fab mounts.
One might be factory, idk

They both allow the trunk to open
and they pivot completely out of the way via those funny grab bar pinch clamp things.

so the whole seat/fender plastic comes right off instantly.
No fuss no muss.

The one with the shiney top srew bolts that look like doorknobs is real
nice and the frame mounts for that look pretty serious with frame mounts and
vertical threaded up tubes for the doorknobs to screw into.

Hope that helps

Hey DrJoe,
Thanks for posting the rack for the 250sx. Was this a OEM rack? I was going to get this rack for my 250SX but just cringed at the thought of drilling two holes in my plastic. I couldnt bring myself to do it. I ended up opting for a six pack rack instead. It won't hold as much but I am still suprised at how much you can get on one. So far, I have not had trouble hauling everything I need. I figure that I could also fabricate a rack to clamp to the top of it if I really needed to.

Yeah, I JUST looked at the sales brochures that are posted on 3ww home page.

I still can't figure them out.
The ones I have with holes in them work and look just fine and after 25+ years
of abuse, the holes have NOT caused them to crack at all.

One oem rack on the honda brochure looks like it hangs off the grab bar and has struts that go behind the plastics
to the frame but very hard to see.

I think I have a 110 with a rack like that.
Maybe I'll take the camera for a walk before it starts raining and post it if I make it back.

Very stout 110 rack with homemade trailer hitch included.

I remember dragging everything with this trike
including my full sized pickup truck across the driveway.

The fenders fit under the racks and slipped on and off easily.
NO holes in the plastic were necessary.

Man, that rack is really stout alright. Looks like that one is there to stay. Its suprising to me that honda did not come up with a rack mounting system that did not need to drill holes in the plastic but I guess they did not intend for this model to be a utility vehicle like the Big Red.
I have looked at the brochure too. Can't see much of anything in that photo but did you notice the mud flaps you could get as an accessory? LOL Those things are huge.

Thanks for the offer but I agree the shipping would more than it would cost to build, I have all sorts of steel pieces and a few extra racks (for KLT's) laying around.

Hey drjoe, thanks for all the great pictures, they are giving me some ideas. I don't like the thought of drilling the plastics either, but I think I can fabricate one without having to do that. give me a couple weeks and I will let you guys know. The big problem is the plastics have to slide to the rear to remove and if I remember correctly the 90 fenders slid forward, I think the 110 did also.

Great pictures, looks like you still have to drill the plastics.

yes u would need two thin holes through the fenders sort of tight to the seat. also the trailprotrailpro r not on there anymore, lol!

My 110 has all the braces under the plastic but it's also a no suspension frame so there are more strut options
down to the axle housing.

I thought I saw an sx rack with horizontal struts (parallel to the rest of the rack)
as opposed to the vertical supports that go thru the plastics.

but maybe that was for the 84 bigred rear rack.

I should go look.
Nope, no more 84 trikes but 2 - 84 br racks and they seem to have the vertical stays/struts.
I guess it depends on how stable you need them.

If they're not pinned down, someone will sit on the back and get mousetrapped.
I personally could prob get away with pinch clamps on the grab bar and bungee cords from the front down to the footpeg area
somehow.

But that's just for my 2nd gear putt around the farm trike.

ejection seat/cargo rack combo?

The pic on the bottom right, the one with the chrome knobs is the factory rack.

I got my sx new, and it came with that rack.

Thanks rob9
Terms of use on 3ww WANT us to keep threads active, no matter how old they are.
I think it helps to keep info in one place.

I have 1 sx with factory doorknob rack.
one with homemade frame mounts
2 84 br rear racks with no home, that I've like to use somehow on an sx.
and a couple 85+ br with racks.

Hard for me to live without racks.
