Is there anyone in the minneapolis area that does top end rebuilds? I have an 84 200 big red. The motor smokes like crazy and oil is comming out of the muffler. I would like to see what it will run as far as parts and labor $$$$. I am west of the cities abou 30 miles.

We can prolly walk you thru it on here? Piston rings and gaskets will run you just North of $100, agood hone,,or probably bore,,$12 hone,,bore ??? $45 ? Does the engine have to come out of this one guys?? I DON"T remember!? If it does, more of a pain up front,,but much easier working on the bench!

I got the motor out and on the bench. Has anyone used those places on ebay where you send in your cylinder and they do the machine work and send it back with the right size piston and gasket set for about 150bucks? Is the topend hard to dissasemble? I am not afraid to tackle it just want to do it rigt the first time.

If you get a manual, it shouldn't be too hard. Honestly it isn't that hard if you take your time, just take your time, make sure you read the manual, and torque everything prroperly when your re assembling it.
Your motor is a single overhead cam, with rockers. The only thing simpler to rebuild would be a lawnmower lol, perfect to leearn on.
Also, I'm not sure if its a coommon problem with a 200 (not a honda guy), but it sounds too me like a bad valve seal, not often will A worn bore create enough smoke to make oil come out of the exhaust like your saying.
Try testing your compression. Take note of the psi, then pour a small amount of oil into the bore through the spark plug hole. Then re-test, if the psi stays the same your bore is generally o.k or not the issue. If it jumps up in psi dramatically then your piston isn't sealing to the bore properly (burning oil, low compression, no power etc)
Don't tear it aparrt without a manual, but I'm sure since you can get the motor out, you can rebuild it.
