I've seen that more with sx models especially if they don't have racks to take the
rollover crunch.
If you're in upstate NY, maybe snow/ice accumulation breaks them?
They do seem to get brittle over the years.
I have at least 3 right now that need some serious fender help before the rains come back.

I covered one with some really nice cardboard to keep it dry in the rain and the next day
the cardboard had 'melted' into a perfect one piece fender looking thing.

I might just trim and spray it with some sort of sealer and call it good.

yeah i am in up state new york, thatd make sense, cause i could never understand how anyone could take a saw to the fenders of a 3 wheeler, my 110 got a dink in the mint tank and i cried on the inside.

yupp,
I picked up a guitar case that wasn't latched,
guitar went face down on the concrete..sloooow motion.

I think they cut them because sometimes they break like
some primitive jagged war tool that could cut to the bone.

Dad's near lake george looking for tires for his yama trike.

They get used, and worked... Or in my case, bought it, and it was missing a fender....
