I have an '81 200 ATC. Well it's actually a Frankenstein at this point. lol It looks clean just a lot of different parts on it from other bikes.

Anywho, I am looking to replace the stock exhaust. I ended up cutting off the spark arrestor cause it wouldn't come off. Figured I would clean it and then just got mad at it. Well it was clean anyway. I did find out that the muffler end was rotten. I could just cut it off and weld in a new pipe... But what fun would that be?

My question is, could I put a CanAm 800cc muffler on there or would it be to big? When I say to big I mean flow wise. I know on cars you can loose power with straight exhaust. This wouldn't be straight exhaust but it would be pretty big compared to stock...

Thanks in advance.

No replies?
Good questions btw.
I've heard that people spend good $ on fancy free flow exhausts to get a tiny bit more power but end up pulling their hair out because they have to rejet the carb multiple times.

On another note, I have a couple blown out mufflers that are annoying as *^&%$
but don't seem to change the way they run.
I've got one with a cob / cobra tapered noisy s.o.b.that keeps blowing out it's packing
so it's a free flow 'straight' pipe periodically.
No real change that I can notice except volume.
I got a 'u' pipe and hooked a car muffler I found at the stop sign
and hung it off the back rack just to shut it up.

(finally got a parts trike with good muff)
The stock muffs on the 250 models are like 2 fosters cans end to end.
just for reference.

Now that's just my experience but there are plenty of performance
folks on here that know tons.

About the extent of my knowledge is that expansion chambers on 2 strokes are critical
and running 4 strokes with no headers can warp a valve
and loud things irritate the neighbors.

There IS some sort of flow chart diagram on here for both mufflers and carb jet ranges but I can't seem to find them.

Have fun!

Don't be shy now... surely someone has modified thier exhaust with some inginuity...

Yeah drjoe I don't care for all the noise myself. We live out in the sticks but still don't wanna be screaming down the road.
