People buy them all the time. There are a few manufacturers such as Clarke and IMS, amongst others. They typically work out really well, but every now and then people will have complaints about fitment and such. Clarke just had a huge issue with the quality (or lack thereof) of their first gen Tecate tanks. I think they are in the process of building a new mold at this time though.

Hey Tattoo it would be for a 86 350x. Does it fit and look like a stock tank? Can you use the heat shield with these? Thanks

mine fits perfectly, and i think it looks good. aftermarket plastic parts just dont have the sharp edges or as defined lines as metal.

Didn't Clarke also have issues with 350X tanks fitting correctly a bit ago?

I have heard that as well. I think it was Crazy70man who was having some issues with his.

something about mashing the air intake along the frame to get
the tank to slide 'on' on a certain model.
I'd try the search key on here.
Also, if you can look at the tank first, bring a blasting flashlight and look
for thin spots.
I've recently converted to 2 plastic tanks, sx and br.
Sad because the sx looked showroom and I miss the warning stickers.
Of the 4 plastic tanks I have, they all look like they've either been waxed
or sunbaked but look dusty white.
NO rust Ever helps with my 'keep it stock' fixation.

The plastic tanks vaguely resemble the stock tanks but they are not near as pretty. But for the average rider, they work fine. They can cost less than a quality used tank depending on what you have as good tanks are getting harder and harder to find. I had one on a 185s and it worked great. It was an older tank. No rust issues. They can discolor due to fuel sitting in them and they can get almost white looking being out in the sun for long periods of time as well, but I'm talking years. But if you have to have original, they don't compare to a factory tank. So it all depends on what you want and what your budget is.
