There are a lot of discontinued parts for that trike if you didn't already know.
You'd probably be better off using a shock from a newer machine rather than mess with the factory one. The bodies sometimes wear out on the inside and there isn't a whole lot you can do to fix that. I have a 300EX shock in mine and I'm pretty happy with it.

The copper gasket should come with almost any top-end gasket kit, I would assume. That one you might be able to get from Kawi still.
I use regular O-rings on my exhaust pipe flanges. They last a season at least.
It sounds like you're kind of new to this. I couldn't find the chain guide you were referring to, but if it's the infamous one that goes at the top of the swing arm around where it mounts to the frame those are long since discontinued. There is a member on here jswinehart that reproduces them.
While you have it apart you should consider replacing the flywheel and stator if you're still running the factory stuff. It's only a matter of time before it cuts out on you.

Sounds like you're doing OK so far.
There are plenty of companies that make the gaskets for that motor. You can get them aftermarket. There should be some that are still available from Kawi. My local Kawi dealer sucked and used to tell me they couldn't get stuff just because they didn't appreciate the old stuff. That's when I switched to Bikebandit and haven't looked back. That dealer closed and I laughed when I heard it.

What you're saying is that you're ordering parts that are discontinued and they don't tell you until a few days later, right?
As time goes by you'll start to learn the parts that are discontinued and the ones that are still available. A lot of the important stuff is long discontinued from Kawi, but the aftermarket has been growing as of late. Thank god for Johnny Swinehart. There are other companies that are trying as well. Clarke, Maier, Ricky Stator, and many others continue to make certain things or even break out old molds once in a while. You have to keep your eyes and ears open on here to know where to get things when they break and what to expect from that machine.

I use www.kawasaki.com to check if parts are discontinued, it will tell you if parts were superceded by newer part numbers, and which part numbers are used with which models.
owner info > parts diagrams> model info or vin number and go from there. You can also cross reference parts from other bikes to see if the parts are used on both models.
If you haven't joined the Tecate Group on this site please do so.. lots of info there..

the suzuki exhaust gasket that was mentioned is for a LT250r. all the 1st generation tecate top end gasket sets I have bought came with the orings but not the copper gasket. the 2nd gen sets I have bought did come with it.

129640129639Yes Mini, I do the #12053 as a reproduction part.
I did not care much for those silly steel spacers so I sized my oem look-A-likes mounting holes for bolt size, but you can whittle out larger to accept the steel spacer if you would like but not recommended to do so IMO.
On another note, many MANY parts interchange with different models of the same era. Your Kawi dealer simply saying "it ain't available" is tee totally UN acceptable in my world.
You simply need a old school dealership. One that is run by 1 or 2 guys who have been Kawasaki dealers for 40 plus years, not a Kawi (and WHAT ever else dealer that sells) shop with 20 plus people working on commissions and such.
Put your dealer to the test and ask about a front exhaust hanger for the 84/85 A-1 + A-2,,, see if they come up with it. My guys can.
You put that "parts" guy to the test and if he pass you might better remember his name because he is working. Please post up the results for that "test".
I was going to reproduce those "long out of production" exhaust hangers untill I done my normal back ground check with "my guys" about availabilty".
I will call my kawi dealer about the exhaust gaskets tomorrow for price and availability.
