So my buddy gave me a rifle today, Im not sure what it is.
Said its been sitting outside for a few years and doesn't want it because its trashed.

It looks to be a .22 pump action made by winchester, but I cant find any pump .22s that look like it.
so far i haven't really looked at it but the action only goes half way open and almost closes but not quite, im pretty sure i can see something with a redish pink tint jammed in there. Im just trying to find out wht it is and what it could be worth in good shape.
I have been wanting a .22 and maybe fixing this up might be cheaper or atleast more fun the buying one new. I just want it to work, ill probably take it in to my local gun smith at some point. The only markings on it is a number in front of the trigger, it says 379917, not sure where to go with that number.

Looks like a Model 270 .22. Its not a valuable gun and would take three to four times its value to bring it back, IMHO. Its a sad day when a guy leaves a trike outside, but how in the hell does someone leave a gun outside?

I'm going to second the Model 270 vote. I owned a 270 at one time, neat shooting little gun, but still not that rare or valuable. You know those pump action pellet guns that look similar? That's what they are based off of, have been for a good number of years. I still have one somewhere.

That red piece is more than likely the magazine follower and should be there.

My goodness, what a crying shame it was so neglected + treated poorly
I done a little Googling this morning and read this about what appears to be your rifle.

Thanks for the Info guys.
Yeah, its a real shame someone let this happen, I wish i knew the true story behind the gun.
I figured if its dead (and appears to be) Ill just use it as a wall piece or something.

I think i might just tear it down and see how far I can get, just for the fun of it.

Tear it down, take some emery cloth to all the rust, might be all it needs, I'd rig something up to shoot it the first time lol.

after looking at it for the first time in day light, in a rust spot it says its a model 275
and i cant unscrew the end cap on the end of the mag tube.
both the stock and fore arm are cracked
the safety is stuck in the fire position
the trigger housing is looking weird
i might just call it an early quits

PB Blaster is your friend, make it your lover. That stuff comes in handier than my carbon steel multitool.

A good long soak in use motor oil works wonders on rust too. I would be glad to try to fix it if you give up on it. Ill even pay for the ride down here. That would make me a good winter project. Might make a nice truck gun in the process.

If you do that just make sure you have it shipped in accordance with the law. I wouldnt want to be in someones shoes that gets caught sending/receiving a firearm without the FFL! You can get in big-time trouble with the feds for that. Just sayin in case you werent aware.

I remember finding a ww1 Enfield 308 in my parents garage as a kid. It hadnt been fired in decades, so we took it to the range and burried the rifle in sand bags and tied a 50' rope around the trigger..... I also found a vintage bayonette in a parking lot as a child walking to school. The principal confiscated it imediately!

I haven't given up yet, after opening it up it really isnt too bad. im soaking the barrel right now and hoping to find the bore to be in good shape, if it is then this gun might actually be brought back to life.

It might be fun to toy around with it for some kinda hobby, but it would be unethical to return to shooters grade when you could pick up a Marlin semi-auto brand new for under $100. I'd especially be worried something happened to the rifling, but I'm sure they can be re-grooved. But as stated none of this is gonna be cost effective.
But I guess in the end its not where you go, it's how you get there.
