Now what, i pulled the engine down, it broke a rocker arm, and the chain and sprockets are screwed. Is this an interference motor? Would i be able to get away with just a new rocker, chain and sprockets? also can anyone explain how the auto tensioner works? Do they ever fail?

It's torsion spring loaded, what did you have a "whole timing chain failure"?? The top hut on the left would have had to be loose..........

hey there 350
It took me quite a while to realize that there are free manuals in the 'world class help'
section, not that they address real world issues necessarily.

Search key is also working really well these days.
Broken rocker, eh?
Sounds like you're thinking chain dropped out of time
and piston kissed the valve?
Will they even do that?

Surely someone who knows will chime in.
Seems pretty rare but who know what these machines have been thru before we get them.

What engine? and year? or did I miss that.
This computer is like trying to read thru an antifreeze soaked windsheild.

I think valve loaded heads are avail almost anywhere but the last time I had a catastrophic situation
and started adding up parts and availability, another complete trike came along for 100 bucks
and we were up and running in less than a day between the 2 of them.
AND we have another parts trike...
until a good engine with a bent frame comes along and then that one will get fixed too.

Pretty much the only way you break a rocker is when the valve hits the piston - so it looks like it is an interference engine. Very often there is damage to the valve guides if the valves have been bent but if you are really lucky the piston may be okay. You must inspect it really closely on the skirt and underside - any doubt, chuck it out! Got any pics?

depending on the engine, you may get away with a
loaded head for 20 bucks
or a whole trike for 50

what is it again?
