Hey every one got a quick question.. I just bought a 1985 250 honda... The reverse cable is seized up, so I ordered another... The reverse cable stops at the handle bars and I see nothing to plug the new cable into.. Is there supposed to be a switch or something there... I was also wondering were the high and low gear switch is, if it even has one... Would appreciate any help..

There is no high/low selector on the 85,86 + 87 Honda Bigreds.
If you really need a picture of where the cable supposed to be terminated at the left handle bar controls I can go out and snap a couple of pictures of mine after supper.

No, there is no High/Low on a 250es. The reverse cable goes onto the left handlebar perch. There should be a red button on the perch.

If its not to much trouble would you snap me a pic.. I think my bike is missing it... the cable was cut at the handle bars, and I think the switch may be missing.. Thanks

If the stud is missing the button, it is just a stud you depress that is on top of the Left Brake/Reverse Lever assembly. Looking from the Front, it is the stud just above the 'Parking Brake' labeled 'PKB'.

I changed the Reverse Cable on My '85 BR recently, and the lead end stay from the cable resides on the bottom of the Left Brake/Reverse Lever. Slide back the rubber shield and look underneath the Brake/Reverse Lever assembly, loosen the adjusting screw all of the way out for the Brake and it should give you enough slack to work out the old reverse cable pieces through the slots. Re-Install this end FIRST, then route your cable to the other end. Walla! (or..Voila to our northern friends...<grin>)

Press down to engage the left brake/reverse lever, shift down on the shifter from 'Neutral' and your red reverse light should light up. You are now in 'Reverse'...

Hope this helps...

p.s. Does someone Have these reverse buttons? The BR I recently purchased did not have one...Maybe SOMEONE of jeswinhart caliber can reproduce them? (hint...Hint)

Wait a minute! Just to the right of your Run/Stop/Head-light switch when you are riding on your trike...Is that one of those bicycle bells that goes 'Brinnng-brinnng-bringgg' when you depress that lever? I don't have one on my '85 BR...

I WANT ONE!

Thanks a ton... My bike doesnt have that button at all.... Great.... The old cable is cut right about where your button is Jason.. The other end of the cable goes down next to the lower brake pedal... Is there some kind of manual way you can shift into reverse and just do away with the cable? Thanks everyone for helping me out on this..

I would think it would be better to keep it as stock as possible. You Can rig it to work via a quick pull-stud aka street-rod motorcycles , but, if you do not remember to have a brake engaged while engaging reverse, it WILL lurch on you! The reverse on a BR is geared at a lot lower ratio than forward gears, which could cause injury....

Ok. One more question and I'll shut up... I'm looking for a good bone yard for parts for this bike as well as my other honda... I'm buying parts on ebay now, and am having trouble finding parts... Such as that reverse button..

Check out Captain Wheezy on the board here and ATC500. They have had some parts recently for sale...

P.s. That reverse button is VERY hard to find! If you find 2, I'll buy the other!

I bought the little red reverse button from my local Honda dealership. I think it was like $1.50. They still use that button on some of the newer 4 wheelers.
