Usually, and ring gear and pinion are 'matched'.
They get made and ground to fit and then it's almost like they run them together
with some sort of grit or lapping compound so they match just perfectly.
I've replaced ring gears by themselves, for instance, and they can work but
It may whine like a banshee, but car and truck r&p are my only experience.

Would it be easier to just swap out the whole thing instead of one gear and all it's
related specs and torques and backlash / setup, spacers etc etc?
