History on the trike, its an 1984 with a 1985 engine and a 84 stator. it burns a bit of oil when its cold, then its fine after its warm. i have noticed in the 25 hours ive put on the trike, some days its got more power than others. i went trail ridding 2 days ago for almost 6 hours, when i started the day it was running like crap, real boggy. temp didn't change, was about 62 all day. i figured mabye water cooled it off, but i was swamping it all day, it was in a puddle every 2 minutes. twords the end of the ride, i was coming home and decided to go boating. the wheeler was in 3 ft of water, it could float. dragged it out of the water, started it right up. then... like a switch all the sudden the trike has twice the nut it had before. infact, i came home and did drifts for a good 40 mins. the trike would never drift before. :wondering

what could cause this?

Don't know the lay out of that particular trike but it sounds perhaps like spark advance issue might be the cause..

Since your advance timing has to change as the load on the engine does, maybe it isn't advancing..them randomly 'unsticks' and you get your advance..boom extra power.

my ytm 200 has done the same thing. I am going to check into the ignition advance.

it could also be a wire making a poor connection, and the last time you swamped it and created a good connection with the water, the cdi on these according to the manual controls the spark timing so if there is an ignition advance I would love to adjust mine a little.

well, i have a whole nother wiring harness, complete with cdi and the other cpus. all 6. after i wash it, it has power again, then itll die out when dry. like you said, it might be bridging a connection with water. head light is out now too, what box controls the headlight? there was no break in the line for the light and the bulb is good
