If that is paint, and it is the original paint, then I would assume it's a first gen 250R. I think the 2nd gen's came with black painted engines?

2 bads in 1 thread! I'm going to bed,too much water damage! You're right ^^ Although,,,,That's NOT what we called them! :naughty::naughty: Fast MF er's is what they were called at our tracks.
Thanks for the quick responces. I knew it wasn't a stock, DG, Mugen, or Hondaline head. It is on an 83/84 ATC250R. Upon closer inspection, the engine, cylinder, and head were originally black (repainted red). I bought this bike several years ago (not running, never tried) while on a wild goose chase with a buddy looking to find parts for his Big Red. Anywho, I'm thinking of making it a winter project. If anyone has any ads about this head, please post. While on the topic, it has a Bills silencer, and I'm guessing a stock pipe? Also it has an intake setup for a boost bottle, bottle is missing, that may be why I never tried starting it?

I think theres a bottle on ebay right now it says it's for a 81-82 but I'm pretty sure it'd work for you since it's just a bottle and a hose. nope I was wrong

Well,,that makes my ether and gasoline soaked brain cells feel better! I KNEW I had seen them on CR's !! Value?? Not being smart,,,whatever you can get for it.. Ebay being the best judge?? Probably whoever would buy it would want to know what compression it is. Except me of course : )

Not the same head by any means, but it is close. You be the judge.

Correct call for everyone that identified that as an Emler/FMF Porcupine head. I have one on my 84 250R fully polished. Very light and ups the compression a decent bit. However through my experience the DG Gold head I have, which is quite a bit heavier than the FMF head, seems to help the engine run cooler. Value depends on condition, anywhere from $250 to $450 depending on how bad a person wants it of course :) Good find nonetheless and definitely a rare old school go fast part.

That's what the test above your post proved. The DG was superior at cooling,,although none of them were significant.
