'85 Tecate Project I just picked up! (It's Alive)

Picked it up this weekend and I'm trying to slowly get it together and ride it soon. Fresh engine by Kustom Kraft, new DG pipe, swinehart flywheel & intake, and this bike will get new fenders once mine come in. I think I will be parting out my other '85 because it s just to much work compared to this one.

Thanks Doug. Normally she is shy as can be, but for some reason she wanted her picture taken today.

I really just plan on getting it running the way I like it, get the feel for it, then over the winter PC the frame and touch it up. I have a set of T9 Baja's with holeshots for the rear. This is going to be my main rider once finished.

Thanks fellas. John I hooked up all the electronics today and kicked it over and it made a nice blue spark. Great work on the flywheel.

I wouldn't part the other. there is enough parts for the first gen. around already. hold on to it. I would do a resto/rebuild and a rider. do one at a time though,trust me

Waiting for my intake from John, install the carb, exhaust o-rings and gasket, tighten up the engine mounts and plastic, go through the brakes, put on the chain, fill up the gas tank, and let it rip.

I would love to keep the other but space is at a premium right now and I would like to recoup some of my money from buying this one. Plus the "R" just keeps getting pushed back even further now.

Nice! I just picked up one last week too, looked just like that! Has DG pipe and silence, Ricky stator, works shocks.

Well I thrashed on it all day and it moves under its own power. I avoided disaster and feel stupid even telling this.

I got it all together, kicked it and it fired right up. All of a sudden it started shaking badly and died. I pushed down on the kicker and it was very tight. I thought it was seized but I could feel something else wasn't right. I pulled the stator cover off and what do you know, stupid forgot to put the bolt in the flywheel. Pulled the flywheel off and everything was good, even the keyway. Bolted it back down and she fired right up.

It needs a new clutch cable and the floats are too high because gas leaks out of the over flow. Now I just need to double check everything, new clutch cable, adjust the carb, hand grips, a bath, and its trail time.

I rode it up the street a few times and its definitely different in every way than the 250r. I just feels pissed off and ready to rip. The 250r feels like a really fast lazy boy compared to the Tecate. The turning radius is also crazy compared to the R and feels like it will turn inside itself. The twister and the damn rear kick are really hard to get used to, but I feel it adds to the uniqueness of the Kawi.

Other then the 26 year old fit an finish of the Kawi I have no complaints so far.

Did you end up finding new floats for that carb? Mine thats the same year as yours does the same thing

I haven't looked. I'll fool with it for a while and then if it gives me to much trouble I have a PWK that I'll try out. The float setup on the Mik is just plain stupid imo, but then again I have never been a fan of the Mik carbs.

132109132110this is my 84 KXT 250 i traded my 95 cheyenne for didnt need the truck and this tecate has the extended rear axle new plastics came with originals wich were broken/craked/faded newer tank not as faded came with new front forks and tire and rim and brakes installed came with originals and original motor but motor is locked up dumb@$$ left it outside with top end off andf piston is stuck to crank case lol the jug is off and appears to be in great shape also came with new radiator and original radiator nothing wrong with it 85 kx 250 race motor but not the right jug i'm going to buy the KX 250 jug thats a direct bolt on for instant hp gain the clutch is weird on it doesnt work for crap when cold but once warmed up works alot better but still either needs replaced but when i got it was told it needed internal adjusting need to replace the rear axle carrier bearings mainly the left side one the gasket/bearing for the gear sprocket on the trans and need to get different oil drain plug this one is stripped but snugs up to the case but not tightening up but not loosening either which is nice need to get new rears for it but she's got alot of power custom made collector i gutted the silencer cause the packing all fell apart inside causeing it to die out it's real nice and poppy like a 2 stroke should be but still have more then enough back pressure to not screw anything up cause i bolted the rear back on instead of leaving it open clocked it against the wind 70mph the next day no wind 80+ passing alot of cars on the highway infront if my house in the country haha love it also is twist throttle love that as well after i do the jug swap i'm planning on going to a 39mm carb off a kx500 seeing how she runs with it also taking the factory air box out and running a custom filter set up i've been takenin it to my buddies MX track and doin osme jumping with it does good also take it to the river and beat up on the 250R thats around here taken it back to the damn saturday for more jumping and racing and river riding cause it's all dried up and hoping to take on the banshee i was trying to race last weekend his wasnt running right so he didnt want to last weekend i raced 2 honda 200 x trikes a 350x trike and trx250R and a 300ex quad beat them all even tho i have shitty tires on the rear didnt leave the line till halfway threw third gear and riding off in a wheelie and still beating them really fun wats the biggest air anyone gotten on the tecate yet i've been getting 4-5 high and about 15 long on the tecate not really pushing it just messing around i'm gonna try and hit the jump in 4th gear pinned at diversion damn saturday hit it in 2nd and 3rd alot and right after landing it took off in a wheelie i had alot of ppl come up and check the trike out and gave tons of complaments they've never seen on before only heard of them or never heard of them and a few old guys used to have 1 back in the day didnt even want to get on mine cause they said it was faster then theres back in the day i run 91 octane mixed at 40.1 using quicksilver full sythetic marine 2stroke water cooled oil tcw3 and i got my buddy with the 250r to switch to it and he noticed a big gain in performance from the stuff he was buying at the local auto store only downer is have to drive 25 miles to get a bottle of oil hahah but let me know wat ya'lls think i'm also gonna do a KX500 engine swap in it aswell after i get used to the new motor
