recent rebuild of my atc200 engine... thought everything was ok than saw this...
See pic.
both snapped
otherwise seems to run well.131734

that was me, but i was gentle...it makes no sense. they screwed on nicely and both are cracked the same, the pic is blurry for the 2nd one, but it did it too.

sometimes they just got old and brittle. i had a atc 110 the top of the cover came off but all the threads were still in the head

do i need to replace right away?

I'd replace em before doing any riding. THose are easy to overtighten and break.

I think I saw some on dratv aka beatrice cycle in Nebraska.

The fill caps on the 250 differentials may also be valve covers from
a 70..same design and even have a listing on the torque charts.

Yupp, mine came apart in 2 pieces too.

After first changing the diff fluid in my 200es, tightening the cap back the entire metal circle around the bolt head snapped off. I asked a buddy to pick me up a new cap because he was running to the dealership, He got back, and that lone cap was nearly 50 bones!!! BUT the cap was made of GOOD aluminum, not that pot metal crap, had a different size, and shorter head on it, fit better, and hasn't gave me any problems!

Got spark?

Mine will run with the valve 'cover' caps OFF so prob not the prob.
