rebuilt my engine atc200 engine recently. had it out once since the rebuild. went to start it and now it wont start.
the pull start was working easily but still wasnt starting. now its its very hard to pull at certain points so i cant even get a good thrust to try and turn it over. any ideas?
i have spark.
verified valve clearance
timing was dead on, is it possible for it to get off and that could be it?

I had that issue with my 85 200x and a fellow member told me to check to see if my timing was 180 out.... few kicks and she was rolling.

timing was legit, it was running great. is it possible it slipped that bad? i didnt think it could really change.

You say timing is on. CDI,or timing chain. Did you replace the timing chain? Did you tighten it? Sounds like it jumped time on you.

just checked my timing its still bang on. t lines up when the o on the sprocket lines up. the spark is lined up too.
thing is its really hard to pull, i cant even get a good thurst on it before it kinda jerks me back.

just for kicks, did you try pulling it with the spark plug removed? maybe something is binding

will try that tonight, one thing i did notice is with the valve release turned to the one direction it pulls like there is nothing stopping it, almost to easy, it doesn't even sound like its trying to fire.
It ran just fine, doesn't make any sense... it did pull fine, but somewhere between pull 100 and 150 it started getting really tight lol

This project has been a nightmare... its a LT230 with a ATC200 engine in it... things just fit like crap. the engine is knicking the bottom of the gas tank just noticed...
one of those projects where im embarrassed what its cost so far, just want the thing to run half decent. I rebuilt the engine which was a battle, but i thought it was good to go finally.

I rebuilt the engine which was a battle, but i thought it was good to go finally.well there's your problem. them quads are junk and turns anything that touches them to junk LOL. if you hold the decompression lever it will pull easy and never fire. the lever hold the exhaust valve open so the engine wont build compression with the lever held. the way they are suppose to work is they hold the valve open momentarily to make the initial pull easier. i think your problem is the decompession is not working so you are getting the full force of the compression when you pull it making it impossible to start. I am not familar with that decompression system whether it works off the recoil or has a seperate lever. if it has its own lever like the 230(if it was an s model) did it should release about mid pull. but I would imagine it works off the recoil. try pop starting it also if it starts and runs good you can eliminate mechanical failure in the engine. I am leaning toward that decompression not working properly

The decomp system on the 200 series engine is simply a lever on top of the engine that lifts the exhaust valve a bit, completely separate from the recoil system.

I kinda have the same problem I got the bike started when I bought it and then I took the top end off to look at the piston and put it all back together and now it wont start? Is it the timing maybe???
