View Full Version : How do I get this bearing off?

I thought I was just missing a bearing from the rear carrier until I was looking at my axle and saw this bearing still on there. How do I get this off? Does this sprocket assembly slide off? I do have a press, but I didn't want to try to press it off until I find out if it's supposed to come off. The second pic is of the bearing.

may help if you say what its from. chances are it will move in one direction a little bit to expose a snap ring. if thats the case remove the snap ring then the sprocket hub will come off the opisite way.(toward where the ring was)

its from an 87 atc 200. wont move at all. I tried tapping it with a hammer and spraying some pb blaster on it but its not moving. Thats why I was wondering if I can put in on the press.

use heat. it will move. heat the piss out of the hub then spray with the blaster so it will seep in between the axle and the hub(put the axle on end) let it sit a 1/2 hour or so then heat the hub again and tap the hub on both sides it should loosen up. it always works for me anyway, good luck

87 125M? I would clean and emery the axle above the bearing,,heat the piss out of the bearing. Have a helper with huge channel locks hold onto the red hot bearing,,tap the axle down thru the bearing. Messing with sprocket hubs isn't a lot of fun. But with a press,much easier! Good luck.

I took it as he was trying to get the whole thing apart,not sure why. do what 007 said but the bearing looks recessed a bit so you may have to push the bearing with the hub. gonna need heat either way

find a piece of pipe to put over the splines and threads on the end of axle to protect them before you go hammering on it.

Its an 83 200, sorry about that. The bearing is recessed back in there, I cant really get a hold of it that's why I was trying to take the sprocket hub off.

I'm going to try to use some heat and pb blaster at the same time, and I didn't even think about some channel locks. I'll let yall know how it goes.
