hey new to the forum and i have a 1984 honda 200s it never did idle properly and the sparkplug will always be like a jet black and sooty after no mater how long you run it for. So i thought i would try to adjust the idle then it just started backfiring when i reved it up and i have also tryed to adjust the air fuel mixture but still backfires and sparkplug still comes out black as the night. i might try taking the carb off and take it apart and clean it with carb cleaner to try help with the plug turning black but i still need to figure out how to adjust this carb right
Iv tryed the air fuel at 2 turns out from turned in all the way also tried 1 1/2 turns plus a bunch of other random spots but still backfiring and turing the plug black
not sure what to do any ideas?

Yea I would start by takin the carb off and cleaning it out really well with carb cleaner be sure to spray into all holes in the carb. I just did mine yesterday and after the cleaning I took compressed air and shot through all the holes to be sure they were cleared. I'm showing 2 and 1/4 turns out on your initial pilot. Be sure to check your needle jet as well, if you're under 5k miles up you'll want that set on the 3rd groove. All of this of course depends on if you have the stock carb still on there. Mine wouldn't idle one bit or anything and when i did all this she runs like a top today.

Add: Check that your air filter is clean and consiter a valve and cam chain adjustment if the carb cleaning doesn't fix it.

And remember, just because you can fiddle with a couple screws does NOT mean you've tuned your carburetor. I use spray can B-12 carb cleaner and clean em out real well, take a small copper wire, strip it, and twist about two or three of the TINY wire together tight and solid, and use that to clean the little ports on the jets, and the other side of the wire strip enough to go all the way through the jet, and twist it up strong and do the same. Don't hurry, be careful not to miss something, and run an inline filter.
Also, do your valves, the whole trike will run better if you do. Valves are a biggie.

Hi,
Make sure your tank is clean & your running a gas filter to catch some of the unwanted crude going to your carb.
