84 300r Question

Hey guys im looking at picking up an 84 300r, i am considering the idea of trading my 1985 250sx for it. My sx is in awesome shape has a 89 300 fourtrax engine in it with original piston and rings. It has just started to smoke but still runs perfect. The 300r is blown up.. aparently needs piston and rings. Am a being foolish to consider this trade? Im not thinking straight up where his is tore apart but if he threw in some cash i may consider it. just want some input thanks. I really want a 250r but from what i figure the 300r top ends are getting hard to find.

It all depends on what kinda $ he throws in, I say atleast 300$... Plus that 4 poke would be ALOT more to rebuild then the 2 stroke

I think im gonna go through with it he offered 400$ cash on top of the trade. The Chassis is A1 motor just needs rebuilt. The piston skirt grenaded so a new jug will probably be in order
