Hey all I'm new to this forum, I've been riding over 30 years but I have a new to me 1983 250r honda that has some issues, I just bought it for cheap off a guy that races quads and three wheelers out at the dunes at Dumont. the motor on the 250 is new and has been bored has a weisco piston in it has had the head shaved, and has a big mikuni carb on it not sure what mm, answer pipe, anyways when I went to buy it, it started for him on the second kick and ran like a scalded dog but wouldnt idle, he said the carb needed to be dialed in and possibly a new plug, when i got it home it would only start when it was cold and choked, now it won't start at all, it's not getting gas from what I can tell, I check the plug and it's dry, I have pulled the line from the back side of the petcock and it's flowing from there, I haven't had time to pull the carb, but it just ran 2 days ago, I put a new plug in it and its getting fire, any ideas would be appreciated thanks in advance

I would check for kinked lines and definitely pull the carb and clean it out just to rule that out. Might just need some tuning or possibly jetting. They're all different. Go to the technical section. There is a thread on tuning and jetting which I'm sure you will find very useful.

Thanks for the reply and links, I'm sure i will have to rejett at some point, the have a huge carb on it, but with all they have done to the motor i'm sure the stock carb would be to small, this thing has crazy compression, I'm a 240lb man and it's all I can do to kick it, the motor only has 1 tank of gas through it so it still needs the rings to fully seat too lol, I believe it got something stuck in one of the jets so your probably right, I just put on a in line filter yesterday and it has gas going into it in front of the carb but just not into the cylinder

ok so after a whole day of trying to get the 250r running right we finally took off the mikuni carb that they had on it off and put on a dellorto 28 pbh that the previous owner had ran on his tricked out blaster that was stroked out to a 260 and now its starting on the first kick and idling but lacks the top end punch it should have, the previous owner swears it should be good to go but.....

after moving the needle up a couple of notches it made a world of difference but still lacks some on top, im thinking a step uup in the main jet and it will be good
