picked up a thumb throttle the other day and the guy i go to for parts and motor work had this sitting in the driveway. it runs, starts in 1-2pulls, but does look a little rough. thinking about buying it, only thing that's kinda holding me back is wanting to do the Zinger up (engine mods and 2speed) and a few things for the 125 (suspended fork, hitch and 6pack rack/grab bar). money is getting a little tight again, so if i get it this stuff will to have to be on hold till next year sometime.

ok i broke down and i am going to get it, but didn't exactly buy it yet. just put some $$ down on it and got a receipt for it. just playing it safe because i'm going on a trip Mon. and also i don't have the room in the truck to haul all 3 to my buddy's place to store them while i'm gone. i'm just going to wait till i get back to bring it home.

checked it out again today and think it's probibly a '74. the rear cover is just some sheet metal they fabbed for a rear shield, no biggie though. will get the original exhaust with it too, but the under side of it is beat pretty good. will have to replace the front lower section to use it. no air filter or anything, but they're cheap enough on e-bay. front fender outer edges have rubbed the front of the motor but the frame looks straight. the old man said it wasn't the frame, but the fender bolts were just loose is all and it was flopping around a bit. also took it for another spin (will have to get used to that downward shift pattern) and it's pretty peppy and the brake is very good.

these local guys are some good old boys. they're always straight, honest and fair. just watch the old man, he is too much. he's one of those likeable old coots who loves to shoot the sheet, if you start talking to him you better pitch a tent and pull up a chair.

That's a great buy for $200!! Looks like you've been bitten by the mini trike bug pretty hard lately:lol: Now you just need the Suzuki mini trike!

That is a 74. Good deal for 200.
Nice find.
Is that a V-65 in the pic too?

Good eye Mosh; didn't notice it at first, that definitely looks like a V65 Magna that the 70 is locked to. Not much into cruisers, but I owned a nice '83 V65 (paid $590 for it, rebuilt the rear caliper and put a little labor into it, rode it for awhile, flipped it for a nice little profit at $1600).

Hated that god-awful king/queen seat, but a good bike none-the less.

Mosh, yeah and he's got it for sale too. glad you posted in here, i need to get a quote from you about recovering the seat for this 70. it's got a couple cracks in it and is very stiff. i'll pm you when i'm ready though.

Swampthang, yep, been bit a couple times now. also there ARE a couple ALT50's around. one is just north of me (runs moves, looks a little rough. i almost got this one 1-2 months ago. was $125 now they want $250) and one to the east ($400, in extremely nice condition) both are less than 30mins from me.

edit: Swampthang, i also think a 200x will be easier to come across then these little guys. i'm just gonna have to wait on it, but i will find the one for me at somepoint. :beer

ok got the 70 home now and from the Vin on the frame it is a 1974 the pics do it more justice than it really looks i think. it's not bad, but still pretty rough though. figure i better get to ordering a carb kit, air filter, 2-3 points kits and a couple NGK's for it to start with. starts pretty easy, but now i have to give it a good bit of throttle to start and it's not wanting to idle at all or run with the choke off. i think it needs a plug, carb rebuild and this wet weather are to blame mostly. they had put new Honda brand points in it, but it could still be them also.

well i got a plug for it today and it starts and idles real good now. guess it was just needing some new/good spark is all. still going to order a few point kits and carb kit for it atleast. guess i'm going to need a muffler soon, was riding it in the yard a few minutes ago and already had a couple neighbors peeping out their windows. :naughty:

got the 70 inside to tear apart this winter and sofar shortlist looks like this...

new tank
air filter
clutch
seatcover and foam
rear tank mount (rubber?)
reserve fuel line
gas cap gasket
paint for new tank

there's was a Harley sticker on the front of the headtube i was taking off and under it was a hole drilled into the headtube. someone try to mount a light? who knows? after i started tearing it down i noticed the front fender was mounted too high and that's why it was hitting the motor.
can't believe i didn't noticed it before.
