It seems like they missed the really important ones like the 1981 250r or even a later liguid R (atv or atc), or any other sport 2 stroke like a Tecate. I only agree with the US90 and that one should have been at the top of the list.

They need to get their facts straight, they left out the ALT-185 in the one for the Quadrunner. And I thought it remained US90 for a couple years atleast before becoming ATC.

Seems like a VERY incomplete article. My opinion is that any one of the ATC 250R generations should have been included, as well as the Tecates. Kawasaki were the only company that was gutsy enough to grab Honda by the horns and tell them that they don't rule the racing scene, because ti seems like Suzuki and Yamaha weren't really in the leaderboard positions.

Agreed, there should have been at least one 2-stroke racing trike. And also i was VERY surprised the 88-89 trx250r wasnt on the list. Its only the standard to which all subsequent racing quads are still compared to even to this day

i think that list is basicly spot on. sorry, but i feel you guys are being a little bias here. check it out, majority of atvs out there are 4strokes. i thought the point of the list was to have a good basic top 5 for atv history. heck if anyone wants to be picky then why wasn't the FL250, FL350 or the pilot on there before the SxS's? these were off road and weren't exactly based off the motorcycle control concept. i know there's a couple things i would rather see on that list, but that doesn't mean they had any real history turning points about them.

I have to respectfully disagree with you there. Were it not for the racers coming around back in the early days, you would have no racing circuit for the thumpers of today to enjoy. And I cant tell you how many wheeler mag articles I have read that have used the 88-89 trx250r as the benchmark to compare the current breed of racing quads against when they first started coming out.

I stand by my statement. ATC250r, Tecate, or Tri-Z should be on that list, as well as 88-89 trx...They are ALL legends that were instrumental in molding the sport. Im sorry, I dont see how any UTV could possibly compare as far as influence. They havent been out long enough to know. Golf carts are more deserving of a spot on that list than UTVs as far as I'm concerned. Who knows if they will even still be making them in 10 years..

that's your opinion, i have mine and that's what makes this country. this is basicly about how i see it. i agree your points are valid, but wether it's 2 or 4 stroke, suspended or ridgid it would've been just a matter of time before someone raced "the other guy" they didn't start out as race machines. people took the original stockers meant for recreation, or work machines and raced them. that's how the racers came about in my book. so from that standpoint the Honda 70 and 90 could be considered the first atv racers. now after thinking about the points made and what their list is showing (i feel their list title is sorta misleading), i think they are aiming this list towards the majority of the people and the majority of people aren't buying these machines to race. yes, people do buy the race machines, but how many actually race them? i bet the majority of the race machines sold today are trail machines and will most likely never see a real track. i totally agree about the UTV's hence the Oddy/Pilot statement, heck how long has John Deere made the gator?
