Hmm, smoke that is smokey? If it is a blue smoke you need rings, possibly a bore and piston.

Why is it that someone asks this same question at least once a week. Do a search on it and you will have all kinds of stuff to read

White smoke usually indicates water being combusted; I'd clean out the fuel system (tank, petcock, carb), replace the fuel line, add an inline fuel filter, fresh gas, etc., as necessary, especially if it has been sitting a long time. An oil change wouldn't hurt either. Check/adjust the valve clearances too; all easy maintenance. Then run it awhile and observe whether or not the smoking stops/lessens. Burnt oil has a distinct odor to it; spill a few drops on the exhaust pipe near the exhaust port while the motor is running good and hot if you are unfamiliar with it. I think there is a possibility that the white smoke is burning oil (which would indicate bad rings/piston, and/or valves), but it seems more likely that it's a symptom of bad gas.
